WASHINGTON -- More police officers have died in the line of duty this year in the United States than in 2017, according to data released Thursday. The most common cause of death was gunfire, and vehicular accidents claimed nearly as many officers' lives.
The National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial Fund said in a report that 144 federal, state and local officers have died so far in 2018. That figure represents roughly a 12 percent increase from the 129 who died in 2017.

According to a popular talk radio station in Phoenix, during the first decade of this century 75% of police deaths involved illegal aliens.
One of those deaths occurred a mile from my work. My work colleagues had encountered the illegal alien perp at a health club just prior to the shooting.
This article is a little deceptive in that it is only using two data points. It might be a 12% increase over 2017, but 2017 was a fairly low year for police on duty deaths. If you look at the 10 or 20 year averages 2018 is still a bit below average.

The overwhelming majority of cops are conservative in their nature and in their politics. This is one of the reasons President Trump has such strong love and affection for those who wear the uniform.

Recent cases may have made cops hesitate to shoot black and Hispanic criminals, allowing them to shoot first.
