Four years ago, Claas Relotius was named CNN's Journalist of the Year. Earlier this month, the 33-year-old Der Spiegel writer was celebrated as Germany's top reporter.
On Wednesday, his rising star came crashing down as a lengthy article in his own magazine outlined repeated falsification in his reporting. In fact, the piece said Relotius is "not a reporter," and that "he tells fairy tales whenever he pleases." The article continues: "truth and lies are confused in his texts, because some stories are clean ... others completely invented."
...
But his admission of guilt was apparently hard-won. On Dec. 3 the same day he received the German press award an Arizona woman raised the first questions surrounding his reporting and his profile of vigilante border guards in the southern U.S.

is CNN offering him a job?
oops. He’s already a CNN favorite.
Fake News, written German Style.
Fake news is real.
In fact, I’m starting to think most news is fake, to some extent.
They should give him an anchor position.
Unless I’ve been remiss at times, I usually try to corroborate information through other sources.
With a name like that he must be a Humanist.
Fälschungnachrichten, Ich glaube.
The only surprising thing to me about this story is that NPR picked it up.
is CNN offering him a job?
The ‘Dream team’,Claas Relotius and Brian Williams!
Each night they dream up a new story.
Glaube das ist ganz richtig.
“With a name like that he must be a Humanist.”

Omgosh. Lisbon1940, your post just jogged a memory loose about an event over 30 years old!
I had recently started dating my beloved... I’m not clear on exactly what caused the comment I said, though the comment was meant as a compliment...
“You must be a humanist.”
Now, I truly meant it as a compliment. I was uneducated as to what a Humanist really was; in my world it was someone who cared for people.
Merciful Maude, you’d have thought I called him a pile of doggy poop. He started lecturing (really!) on what a Humanist was, and would I please learn what things really mean before opening my mouth. He said people do not have a clue as to what anything meant any more....
LOL When I get stressed over the events of the day I often tell my beloved that sometimes, just sometimes mind you, I’d rather have no actual knowledge of the real world.
LOL And, yes, I am so glad he’s not a Humanist.
Now if I could only get him to mail a few of his New Yorker mannerisms back to New York.... which is not likely because he refuses to go back to New York for any reason...
As he’s a staunch Conservative and extremely Pro-2nd Amendment I really should be happy. LOL
A lot of them picked Latin names ending in “ius,” like Ignatius and Sebelius.
Wow. Did not know that...
