A team of journalists and a retired Woodbury police officer have followed the Jodi Huisentruit case and held a dedication ceremony in June 2018 for new billboards placed in Mason City, Iowa on what would have been her 50th birthday.

The TV show “48 Hours” promises to reveal “new information” Saturday in the unsolved case of Iowa anchorwoman Jodi Huisentruit, who disappeared 23 years ago.

The 27-year-old Minnesota native vanished while heading to work one morning in June 1995, leaving behind evidence of a struggle in her apartment parking lot but few clues as to who assaulted her. In the two decades since, investigators in Mason City, an Iowa community of 30,000 people about 140 miles south of the Twin Cities, have chased hundreds of tips but have yet to make an arrest.

Back in the mid 90's, a good friend's sister was the topic of one of the shows of Unsolved Mysteries. She was a member of the Seafarers Union and was taking classes at their training center in Maryland. In August of 1993 her body was found floating in the Chesapeake Bay. There were several suspects but no hard evidence.

In 1997 after her episode aired, the murderer, who was being held in a Florida jail on other charges, bragged to another inmate that he did it and that inmate turned him in.

The guy only got 15 years in prison and is now out.........

Here's her story:

I remember this case and did not know it was solved. At the time there was speculation that the murder victim had come to know to much about the activities of the gangland types that used this school as a front and laundering outfit.
