Trump floating Mark Meadows for White House chief of staff
The Hill ^ | 12/09/18 | Justin Wise

Posted on 12/09/2018 2:17:46 PM PST by yesthatjallen

President Trump has privately been floating the idea of replacing Chief of Staff John Kelly with Rep. Mark Meadows (R-N.C.), according to Axios.

The news outlet, citing three sources with knowledge of the matter, reported on Sunday that Trump has recently been asking many people about who he should name as his chief of staff when Kelly officially departs.

He's asked many of them what they think of Meadows, a North Carolina congressman who is currently the chairman of the conservative House Freedom Caucus. He's also reportedly mentioned three other people as other possible candidates.

Axios said it did not have information about those possible candidates.

Meadows was rumored as a possible chief of staff contender back in February. Other people on Trump's list of contenders now include Office of Management and Budget Director Mick Mulvaney.

Washington Post reporter Josh Dawsey tweeted that a White House official with direct knowledge confirmed Axios' report to him.

The Hill has reached out to the White House for comment.

Why does he take people from the House or Senate? Look what taking Jeff Sessions from the Senate did for the country. Seems like every time we turn around, he’s talking about taking someone else from congress for his administration.

Stop depleting our numbers in the House!!! Replacements don’t grow on trees or even from the next reelection!! We’re trying to get to the end of all the nonsense going on with investigation after investigation in DC so he doesn’t need to take one of the best informed about what’s gone on and continues going on - forever, it seems.

A successful businessman before a politician so why not? That should appeal to the president. I don’t know why he asks anyone for their input.. He should throw out names he picks himself and get feedback on them but not leave the picking or choosing to anyone else...

What a really bad idea. Meadows is needed in the House, leave him there. There are other people out of politics that would make a good Chief of Staff. Allen West maybe?

“”(Yes, Dan Bongino is a ‘fun’ pick - anything to make Lib heads explode)””

I don’t think we’d want to pick up the costs of replacing all the windows in the WH when he picks someone up to throw them out!!! There has to be a place for him somewhere - high octane and rarin’ to go after the thugs - we need a pit bull and that’s him but where do we put him?

Nah on Giuliani - he can’t keep quiet about anything...likes the limelight too much! Been kind of nice not to be hearing from him so much lately.

“”You mean kris Kobach then””

I didn’t see the error either...Kobach is right!

“”I’m only half kidding since what he has done so far with a lot of key positions is no better than randomly casting about and interviewing.””

Seems to be the procedure he uses all right. Perhaps he’s always had an Office of Personnel for all the hiring so isn’t used to or familiar with how to go about it. Probably would make sense that he never had time for that building his empire so stop throwing out names and leave it to the pros.

I think you’re right - I feel the same way so of course, I’ll go with the one who agrees with me...It doesn’t make sense to me either. He should have a very good idea of who AND WHAT he wants/needs in that position and go from there.

Apparently General Kelly isn’t what he wanted so he’s several steps ahead right there. Of course, we have to make allowances that he doesn’t KNOW the town as well but who said a new Chief of Staff has to be a known commodity! It could even be a Craig Livingstone no one ever heard of before - LOL!! Now there’s a guy who knew how to keep his mouth shut - but sad to say no one has heard a sound out of him since he came to the country’s attention during the Clinton days!

I thought of Huckabee also. I like him a lot. I don’t know who Mulvaney is and I should....

“”Issa is all hat and no cattle. He also has a curious business background.””

A successful business man so I don’t know what’s curious about that. He was a fine congressman...

“”Allen West maybe?””

There really are a lot of choices out there, aren’t there? Another one would be Herman Cain...He’s certainly had lots of experience managing people. See - we could get him a whole long list to choose from but I still think he should be doing the picking....

I’d love to see Huckabee working with his daughter in the West Wing.

Mulvaney is Director of the Office of Management and Budget.
He previously served as a congressman from South Carolina.

Can you tell me anything he instigated ont he national scene and actually finished / delivered on?

All I remember from his committee days was sound and fury signifying nothing.

Dave Brat is the obvious choice if a congressman is wanted as chief of staff.
