Tumblr will ban adult content from the platform starting Dec. 17, the company announced. This change will also get rid of Tumblrs Safe Mode, the search filter designed to purge NSFW content from a query. Explicit written content, such as erotica, is still permitted as well.
Tumblr will instead be focused on creating the most welcoming environment possible for our community.
Tumblr has allowed NSFW content on its platform since the site launched in 2007. Earlier this year, under new management Tumblr will purge most NSFW content under new guidelines.
That’ll teach me not to wake up and check online before breakfast. /barf alert
Things have been so messed up in regards to p*rn bots spamming everything - and the moderation groups won't bother with - much less the (what is called) Alt-Right/Nationalist Supremacy views (which are centrist but to a raging Marxist is Far Right) have.
This is a huge fallout because there was a large rise in child p* that it got them de-platformed with Google and ITunes. They only gave a (ahem) when that happened.
All of this is blowback and fallout from the Trafficking Law that went into effect last year - because the actual porn has been purged for a while - and now it's going after adult content (X stuff is gone. R stuff is now going.)
And It's only a matter of time before the written nsfw content is purged too.
Alternative platforms are crashing by the migration from Tumblr, including for those who use their bodies to generate income.
It won't also be the SJW who will be leaving but many will go because of the hindrance of lack of free expression - like Twitter shadowbans people or does it outright.
It's a wonder that I've not been caught on yet, to see from the sewers what is rising up from the muck. Then again, I don't talk politics there.
I was thinking the same thing. Thought it was just another porn app that the wide didn’t know about.
I like looking at the vintage cars and trucks, country living, old jeeps, historical things, and the like there.
Yeah...
You know Tumblr used to be the BEST place to find delicious pictures of food, cat and dog pictures, beautiful artwork, and just plain interesting photos. I cannot tell you how many cool and great pictures of guns that I just collected from that site, not to mention the historical photos. Stuff you wouldn’t find anywhere else. Noting on Pinterest even came close!
My NPC and political blogs are gutted. They are just white spaces with a orange band at the top saying “Picture has been flagged” with a link that leads to infinity.
Luckily my food blog is mostly intact. Mostly, meaning that only about 15% of the photos are gone.
My Gun blog took a hard hit. It’s about 80% decimated. With only a picture here and one over there.
Fine art blog. Is a mixed blessing. I would say about 50% of it is erased. And I don’t know what they were or anything as the names and dialog at the base are missing as well.
NSFW. All empty. But that’s what they promised, eh?
Political blog. Zip and Nada. I think that they targeted all of my Trump pictures. I suspect... no proof mind you...that some SJW’s types just started flagging everything they didn’t like and the AI erased it all. Whatever... All the pookie toons that I saved are no lost somewhere in the abyss. Sad....sad...
Crazy
Its most of their content
Nudity
I thought it was a file sharing site. My tablet can’t log in to any links to tumblr because I refuse to install their app. I don’t have enough storage to install an app for every site I might visit.
Because of the app thing, I am having trouble mustering any sympathy. If the site dies, it dies.
I was a digital/fiber tech for bell long b4 the internet boom and after and I didn’t know what it meant.
Must be nice to be all knowing
I never had enough of anything to put in a blog. Anything I come up with, someone else did already.
The most I have is a smugmug account and a twitter I barely use.
Exactly. I’m tired of having to do a search or six before reading articles.
Go to Gab which is a great alternative for Facebook and Twitter. You can search on NSFW and join those groups. The Humor and Meme sections are sometimes hilarious. Beware of rough language and ideas that you can permanently mute.
Tumblr wants to be pintrest I guess. I don’t really know how either site makes money but they will lose users in stampede for the exit on Dec 18.
Just as an aside, can anyone here tell me how Tumblr makes money?
Never heard of Tumblr... In my day a tumblr referred to a sure thing...
I wonder if Verizon is shooting themselves in the foot; wondering how many Verizon users don’t mind paying for the level of service they have with Verizon due to how many data points are in the volume of stuff that is NSFW that they view on Tumblr. Some may say s”%$w verison and switch their service to someplace that isn’t jumping on the Google/Facebook and now Verizon censorship bandwagon.
