Tumblr will purge most NSFW content under new guidelines

Tumblr will ban adult content from the platform starting Dec. 17, the company announced. This change will also get rid of Tumblr’s Safe Mode, the search filter designed to purge NSFW content from a query. Explicit written content, such as erotica, is still permitted as well.

Tumblr will instead be focused on creating “the most welcoming environment possible for our community.”

Tumblr has allowed NSFW content on its platform since the site launched in 2007. Earlier this year, under new management Tumblr will purge most NSFW content under new guidelines.

The Tumblr community is pretty much outraged over this. I don't blame them. Under the new guidelines anything deemed outside of the progressive sphere of influence is banned. In short, anyone can flag a post as NSFW, and it will be banned. That includes guns, hunting, fishing, fashion, and traditional oils and figurative paintings.

Since the announcement, Verison (which owns Yahoo, which owns Tumblr) took a massive hit.

Tumblr announced Monday that the website will soon ban the posting of any "adult content," which is defined as media that depicts "real-life human genitals or female-presenting nipples."

In a blog post, Tumblr defended the decision as a "responsibility to consider (our) impact across different age groups, demographics, cultures, and mindsets."

When Verizon bought Yahoo in 2017, it also took ownership of Tumblr.

People across social media platforms decried Tumblr for taking away a platform where users could view NSFW content. and explore their identity in a safe space for new progressive values and a diverse marketplace of ideas.

Tumblr will soon ban its millions of users from posting NSFW content featuring nudity and porn, the blogging platform announced Monday. Tumblr is a part of Oath, the Verizon digital media subsidiary formed by pieces of the telecom giant's AOL and Yahoo acquisitions.

NSFW? Abbreviations should always be explained in the first citation.

Sounds like this is about banning way more than nudie pics and porn...

Amen! Yes, NSFW means anything and everything which might be offense to someone...even if they are not in the room or monitoring your screen.

NSFW means anything that would upset a snowflake.

NSFW means anything that does not follow progressive rules and guidelines.

Gave back about 1/3 of the November gains.

Beat me to it! I’m not super familiar with Tumblr but I thought they were basically all porn.

Unless they use some sort of AI, then this is going to be impossible.

And if they use AI, it’s going to be a matter of GIGO, and they will still have tons of NSFW content, and a bunch of other SFW stuff will get purged because it triggered the AI by pure chance.

The SJWs are going to abandon that platform in droves.
