Co-hosts of MSNBC's "Morning Joe" Mika Brzezinski and Joe Scarborough tied the knot in a secret wedding ceremony officiated by Rep. Elijah Cummings (D-Md.) over the weekend, Vanity Fair reported on Sunday.
The celebrity morning television hosts held an intimate ceremony attended by a handful of people on Saturday in Washington's National Archives, the first time a wedding has been held there, according to the magazine.
They reportedly chose the quiet post-Thanksgiving date to keep the wedding under wraps.
“We wanted it to be really small and simple and not what you expected from Mika and Joe,” Brzezinski told Vanity Fair. “Everything we do is exposed, and everything felt exposed every step of the way, so we want this to be private until it’s over."
"We wanted to recognize it more quietly and have the people who are most important to us around us," she added. "And you know, our show is a cocktail party every morning.”
"Not a cocktail party," Scarborough said. "A coffee. We have three hours talking to our good friends every morning."
The two went to extreme lengths to keep the wedding a secret: They made reservations under a friend's name, did not tell the vendors their identity ahead of time, did not send out invitations and did not let guests know where the dinner would be until the night of the event, Vanity Fair reported.
“We made the decision a year ago to dramatically change our lives and have a low-key existence,” Scarborough said. “The more time we can spend with our family, the happier we are.”
Cummings, the wedding's officiant, told the small gathering that he had known Brzezinski and Scarborough since they both worked in Congress.
Brzezinski, who told Vanity Fair that she will soon be changing her name, said that she feels Cummings is "representative of the movement forward, of getting the country back." He serves as the ranking member of the Committee on Oversight and Government Reform, which is investigating President Trump.
Scarborough and Brzezinski have become high-profile Trump critics, ripping the president and his administration during nearly every episode of their morning show. Scarborough last year formally left the GOP and registered as an independent, citing his belief that the Republican party has been "destroyed" in part by Trump.
The two made waves when they got engaged last year. Their on-air chemistry was the subject of a viral "Saturday Night Live" skit, in which SNL's Kate McKinnon and Alex Moffat mocked the couple's political disagreements with moments of exaggerated intimacy.
Brzezinski told Vanity Fair that she felt the National Archives, which houses the Constitution, Declaration of Independence and Bill of Rights, made sense "given what we stand for as a couple."
“We did an event there more than a year ago and we were just blown away, seeing all these documents and how we felt seeing them,” Brzezinski told Vanity Fair. “It makes sense now more than ever, given what we stand for as a couple, what we do for a living and what we’re worried about as a country.”
After the ceremony, the two held a dinner reception with about 40 attendees at a French restaurant in Washington, Chez Billy Sud.
“I am here tonight because of the important work Joe and Mika do every day and to celebrate them and the love they have for each other and their kids,” Cummings said during a toast, Vanity Fair reported. “Make wonderful memories because at some point that’s all you will have.”
Their honeymoon will last five days and began on Sunday.

The ABC News/Washington Post Poll gave this marriage an 18% Approval Rating, with 68% predicting separation with one year.
The other 14% didn't give a shit.
It is CREEPY that these two are on air TOGETHER.
What a pantload those two are.
