All he wanted was a little more sleep.
It was 5:45 a.m., 15 minutes before his alarm was set to ring, and Chester Hollingsworth lay in bed, tired, especially after a weekend celebrating a birthday he never thought he'd make.
A few more hours of rest, he thought, would do him well. But today was a Tuesday. And on Tuesdays and Thursdays, Hollingsworth goes to work.
The alarm clock rang. It was time to get out of bed.
He dug both elbows into the mattress and carefully twisted his body on its side. He dropped his legs off the edge, then slowly sat up. He rocked back and forth, warming up his limbs, before taking his first steps of the day.

My 94 YO FIL works 5 -1/2 days a week (owns his own business where he makes hand-made furniture).
I feel like such a wimp for wanting to retire in a handful of years at 64.
Not that that feeling will stop me, mind you...
This guy is amazing.
Note: I want to do teaching which I have always loved after a little “”me time” to do the things I never did at college age.
I shall not go fallow.
Great story, thanks for posting.
A wonderful story indeed.
“I feel like such a wimp for wanting to retire in a handful of years at 64.”
Don’t think that way!!!! Retirement is about 15-20 years away for me, but I’d like to think I’d be using that time working for myself :-). You should do the same :-).
I’ll quit working when I’m dead. I love what I do :-).
Thanks for posting this great story.
Ha...I have another 25 to get to that age...that’s OK...the mortgage will be paid off in 24.
My mother has a friend whose mother worked in the kitchen of a nursing home. One day, admin called her in and said they realized she was 85. Maybe she would like to retire?
She didn’t really want to, but her daughter convinced her to leave. She lived with the daughter and son-in-law and was well-taken care of; she didn’t have to work. Over the years, she would sometimes ask the daughter if she could go back to work, but the daughter felt she was doing right by keeping mom at home.
Her mom lived to be 103. Was basically fine until the last year or so when she had hearing issues.
Long article to get to what he does for work. He sits at a desk and does paperwork for anyone else who might be curious.
Some people are tied to their work as their identity. Some people love what they do so it really isn’t work to them. It’s more like a favorite pastime for the rest of us.
I envy this old guy for getting to work that long.
If you’re not independently wealthy, retirement sucks.
I’m only 73, but now disabled, and I just hate, hate, hate, the fact that I can no longer get around just to do simple household chores, much less hold a job.
The extent of my activity is going to dialysis three times a week.
So, good for the old guy, sounds like he’s let a full and fruitful life.
