It seems to me the disappearance of Jamal Khashoggi, last seen in Istanbul, is Erdogan-brand Turkish taffy, a confection of sugary lies made to inflame Americans against the Saudis and aid the far more dangerous to our well-being mullahs of Iran
I confess to prejudice in this matter. I think Iran is a grave threat to the world, and the Saudis are aiding us in constraining the mullahs. Like Matthew Continetti, I believe the Saudis are now an important counterterrorism ally and roiling the waters there would disrupt energy markets, create pockets of instability in which jihadists and Iranian-backed militias thrive, and cause headaches for Israel.
If we disrupt our present relationship, why wouldnt the Saudis turn elsewhere -- China and Russia -- and any influence we have in the Middle East would be lost.
In fact, if those in Congress who believe this nonsense get their way and cut arms sales to the Saudis, the beneficiaries will be arms producers in China and Russia and, of course, Iran.
Emmett Tyrell, Jr. speaks for me in the American Spectator:
Today, the United States is faced with a potentially-nuclear-armed Iran that has spread itself far beyond its borders. Iran threatens Americas allies in Israel and the Sunni Arab states, as well as seeks undue control over the regions vital oil and natural gas sources. Whats more, Irans ruling elite are intoxicated by a noxious mix of anti-Americanism, anti-Semitism, and radical Shiite orthodoxy. [snip] Thanks to the Trump Mideast policy, Israel and the Sunni Arab states are now moving closer together as they are increasingly threatened by Iran. Last year, President Trump presided over one of the largest arms sales to Saudi Arabia in history...

I still remember the TV commercials for Bonomo’s Turkish Taffy. “Turkish Taffy tastes like ice cream!” Interestingly, Turkish Taffy was invented by an Austrian immigrant, and salt water taffy doesn’t use salt water.
Interesting!
Am I the only one that thinks it strange that the girl friend got his watch?
Most killers try to hide their involvement. The watch would go into the black market and disappear.
Unless she was a honey trap and believing the information on it had been erased beyond recovery, she wanted it as a prize...an award or medal for her success.
So she sets the trap.
And who owns the camera that saw him going in the embassy but not coming out?
Turkey wants relations between the Saudis and the US to go sour. Suppose he did come out and the Turks grabbed him.
Nothing about his disappearance makes sense.
Or suppose the girl is not a honey trap and the Turks intended for the screams and commotion on the watch to be heard so as to put the blame on the Saudis when in fact the torture occurred in a Turkish prison.
Has an investigator that the uS considers reliable inspected the murder scene and determined whose DNA is in the blood found there?
Neither the Turks or the Saudis are known for their honesty.
Not the time to make a sudden decision.
Prince Al-Waleed was arrested in the big purge with allegations against against him including money laundering, bribery, and extorting officials. Still sure Kashoggi was "just a journalist"...?
No better - no worse.
Years ago I spoke with a newspaper editor who shared with me an ongoing debate within the profession - - a debate dealing with 'journalists ethics in war zones'...
The question being debated was 'should a journalist who can see an ambush about to happen yell out to American soldiers to warn them'...
The surprise answer was "NO" - no, the journalist is an observer and NOT a player and should allow the soldiers to be wounded and/or die. I believe this same 'journalist ethic' holds today.
I regret Jamal Khashoggi's death - but it's NOT OUR PROBLEM beyond how we would treat the death of any American.
The death is like Ford’s rape.......
Erdogen is DiFi
I agree, good post.
It’s especially not the time to make a sudden decision.

It's surprising how many people are angry that the Saudis allegedly killed a member of the Muslim Brotherhood. Maybe they don't know that the Muslim Brotherhood is a terrorist organization. Maybe they don't know that the Muslim Brotherhood wants to overthrow the Saudi government and take control of Saudi Arabia.
Maybe they believe the propaganda put out by the Washington Post.
The Washington Post was happy to provide a forum for a member of a terror network that is responsible for murdering countless Christians and Jews.
Right on, FRiend.
This has Hellary all over it. Anything to get Trump to rush to judgement and go head long into some fiasco. If it weren’t for the constant msm on the story, it would have gone unnoticed by the world. Notice, too, it’s perfect timing for her and BJ’s latest hurrah.

Gee, y'think? Erdogan loses on his kidnapping scam, then a pro-jihadist propagandist drops out of sight, and the next day Turkey's already solved the case? Not hardly. Not only are the details a tissue of lies, the Erdogan regime hasn't produced the supposed evidence. Thanks jazusamo.
I agree, plus the RATs and RINOs like Rubio and lame duck POS Flake are making noise feeding the enemedia.
I thought he was a Saudi Arabian?
