Two events from the last two days stand out. The first came Monday night with President Trumps forceful yet compassionate speech at the swearing in of Brett Kavanaugh to the Supreme Court.
The president opened with an extraordinary apology on behalf of the country to Kavanaugh and his family for the terrible pain and suffering they endured during the historically brutal confirmation process. He said the unfounded allegations violated fairness and the presumption of innocence.
Trump also tenderly addressed Kavanaughs young daughters, telling them your father is a great man, a man of decency, character, kindness and courage.
The event was something of a spike-the-football moment in front of a cheering White House audience and as such was a clever piece of stagecraft, where Republican Sens. Mitch McConnell, Charles Grassley, Lindsey Graham and Susan Collins were saluted.
But the ceremony was much more than that mere boosterism. With the eight other Supremes sitting in the front row, Trump aimed to restore dignity to the judiciary at a time when the dirtiest tricks of politics have buried the court in a mountain of mud.
The president is right to worry that the character-assassination attempt on Kavanaugh may turn out to be a seminal moment in American political and cultural history. The ideas that the court is just another political branch and that the presumption of innocence no longer applies if you are on the other team represent a seismic shift in how we look at each other and the nation as a whole.
If those ideas stick, we are in more trouble than we can imagine....

Isn’t that better than an uncivil war?
Hillary should be careful what she asks for...she may have been led to think shes invulnerable but if she thinks the consequences wont reach her personally...well, thats her delusion.

This should really be clarified, to say that the liberals and leftists, are the ones who decided that presumption of innocence no longer applies to the other side. It is the Democrats/leftists, who decided to start such a war, not conservatives.
Mussolini, Esso Station. Just sayin’.....
Were they ever civil for the last several decades?
Anyhow, it’s going to take a faith revolution, not a political revolution, to fix this.
Well, DemocRats aren’t outraged be a use they support it.
Republicans aren’t outraged be a use we have been the brunt of it already.
The Clintons are soooooooooooo 20th century
Might I say, Move On?
Has there ever been a civil war that was? Civil, that is.
“This should really be clarified, to say that the liberals and leftists, are the ones who decided that presumption of innocence no longer applies to the other side.”
You are exactly correct. Every criticism of the demonic incivility of the left is always followed by some moral equivalence ... “Well, of course, the extremes of both sides are equally at fault... Mumble, mumble, mumble...,” Total BS.
Why would there be outrage from the Demagogic Party? That's what they live and breathe, and have for generations. And that covers the partisan media shills, which is most of the media. Silence implies consent.
This is the real reason Dems want to take away guns. So they can safely send their terrorists after opposing voices!
It is just AMAZING to me that these people can HONESTLY believe that the civil unrest in this country is being done be the right side!!! These IDIOTS keep bringing up the protests that were done by the Tea Party the MILD AND TEPID Tea Party who cleaned up EVERY scrap of paper before they left the area, who also had PERMITS for EVERY DAMNED EVENT!!! What the HELL planet are these people living on!!! HELLARY saying that there can be no civility UNTIL they have their way!!!!
Looks like she’s had another facelift to get rid of ol’ turkeyneck.
Must put extreme compressive force on the brain, too.
Old and unhinged.
I learned as a child not to play "army" with the little bastards who duck and scream "you missed," even when you had your finger gun screwed into their ear when you said "bang."
If they won't leave your game, you have little recourse but beat their ass till they do.
Taking our guns is a preemptive attempt to avoid that ass-beating so they can stay in the game.
