Republicans on the Senate Judiciary Committee have brought in "an experienced sex-crimes prosecutor" to handle questioning on Thursday, but declined to identify her.
Senate Judiciary Committee Republicans said Tuesday that they had hired an outside counsel to question Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh and Christine Blasey Ford, who has accused him of sexually assaulting her, at the committee's hearing on Thursday though they would not reveal the lawyer's identity, drawing criticism from Democrats and women's advocates.
In a letter to a lawyer for Ford on Monday, Mike Davis, who handles nominations for Republicans on the committee all of whom are men said that the GOP had hired a woman whom he described as "an experienced sex-crimes prosecutor to serve as an investigative staff counsel for the hearing."
"She will question Dr. Ford and Judge Kavanaugh on Thursday on behalf of the Republican members," Davis wrote. The goal for Senate Judiciary Committee chairman Chuck Grassley, R-Iowa, said Davis, "is to de-politicize this process and search for the truth instead of creating a forum for senators to grandstand or launch their presidential campaigns."(continued)

Ford will tap out.
Possibly that’s the goal here. A no-show would be pretty devastating to the Dem’s case, and if she’s scared enough of cross-examination she may back out entirely.
Just let her tell her story.
Then ignore it and vote to confirm.
Someone extremely competent had better have done a VERY thorough check on this female prosecutor to be absolutely certain there is ZERO chance that she intentionally throws an interception on the 1 yard line.
How does this ever get reconciled he will say it never happened she says it did happen.
That Ford Ain't Coming! |
I would love it if the experienced add crimes lawyer was Judge Judy or Ann Coulter.
Sex crimes, not add crimes
She shows up, but doesn’t testify. Instead she and her attorney hold a news conference on the Capitol steps surrounded by congressional women and in front of a sea of bussed in protesters. Her lawyer starts by attacking the unfairness of the process, followed by Ford’s speech about how women victims like her are attacked, ridiculed and dismissed. Then to resounding applause she gets back in the limo and heads off to here first live interviews.
and FFeinstein et all cry UNFAIR! They really have. And the Edsel has indicated she might not be coming. The Democrats don't need her there now. The confirmation is put off past time to allow K to take his seat in the near session of the Court. He will have to wait until the next session. I wish Grassley would hear that she won't show and call the vote tomorrow.
The Democrats will still win Round 1 if she doean’t show just so long as the committee vote is delayed past Thursday. Then Kavanaugh probably cannot join the Court until the session following the near session. That makes a whole session period of favorable to Dems non decisions of a hung Court. The cases coming up are in large part of Conservative origin being appealed to USSC from adverse decisions on the Left majority Appeals Courts.
The GOP is bending over too far. Nothing the GOP does will save them from scathing criticism after Kav is confirmed.
Grassley fed them the rope - what they do with it is up to them...
