National sales tax, basically. It’s not like these goods are going to now be manufactured in the US. At a 10-25% tariff rate, it’s till far cheaper to make them in China, it’s just that now the government gets sales tax revenue out of it.

Tariffs are a tax hike. China is not paying the tax. You are. At least understand that much, people.

I don’t agree.

For the last generation and a half, some people have been getting very rich, selling out America, to China.

Finally. After everyone in both parties have been selling out the USA, we finally, have a leader who is supporting America.

It has been far too long, since that happened.

So is the argument that we enrich an enemy by allowing them to steal our trade and tech secrets and keep our products out of their markets while they subsidize their industries to gain a competitive advantage so they can build their military to confront the US , all so we do not have to pay $1.25 for the Walmart can opener rather than a dollar?

Yes, but manufacturers who want to sell their goods cheap will move out of China to another country (even if it’s not back to the US).

This is just as much about containing China as it is about fixing the trade deficit. The point is the US needed to start using trade rules as a weapon to deal with other countries, especially those who seek to challenge us. But the free trade ideologues wanted us to have unilateral disarmament. Which is as stupid as the peaceniks who wanted unilateral nuclear weapon disarmament.

Thats crap. If its just a tax hike on us. Explain then why does every other country do it to us and scream when we put tariffs on their stuff. Why is China mad when we raise tariffs on their goods. Its because its tariffs get paid by the country producing the goods. In China their Yuan goes down. So they get less. Our government makes money and does not raise our income tax. A tariff is a tax on their workers. Income tax is a tax on our workers. Remember currencies go up and down. And tariffs get swallowed up in the currency changes.

You are correct on the short term only. Most free traitors use the short version to sell their poison.

I used to have a manufacturing business as a second tier supplier to Boeing. Our manufacturing base can return in a very short time, it merely needs the market place level to do so. The profit margins are there once you remove China’s ability to pay slave wages to their workers while ignoring the pollution and safety standards we must comply with.

Yes, there will be short term pain. But the jobs created won’t be asking “did you want fries with that?”.

Deal with it.

China has been spreading itself as thin as marmalade on toast lately, promising this African nation and that latin American nation billions in aid and development in exchange for ally agreements. There's only one place to get the money they need to follow through - that's the US of A.
