Not surprising.
Google has already rigged search results for certain Islamic searches without being at all subtle about it. But the explosive thing here is that it was a response to a specific government policy.
That takes Google out of the realm of rigging results and into anti-government activism.
Days after the Trump administration instituted a controversial travel ban in January 2017, Google employees discussed ways they might be able to tweak the company’s search-related functions to show users how to contribute to pro-immigration organizations and contact lawmakers and government agencies, according to internal company emails.
The email traffic, reviewed by The Wall Street Journal, shows that employees proposed ways to “leverage” search functions and take steps to counter what they considered to be “islamophobic, algorithmically biased results from search terms ‘Islam,’ ‘Muslim,’ ‘Iran,’ etc.” and “prejudiced, algorithmically biased search results from search terms ‘Mexico,’ ‘Hispanic,’ ‘Latino,’ etc.”
Google says that these plots never went beyond proposals. But it shows how dangerous such power is. And that such power is bound to be used.
And abused.

DuckDuckGo. I refuse to use Gooogle.
At work, we use bing. It’s microsoft but it seems okay. I’ve not detected any biases but it is something that could be researched. I’ve enjoyed it if for nothing else than the wallpaper and their newsfeed overall, has been good imho.
Just searched “Muslim.” Goodle has a link below “Muslim” first page prominently displayed. It lists “People also search for:”Judaism, Buddism, Hinduism, Shia Islam, . . ..” Surpisingly, people must not search Christianity.

Agree. I also use DuckDuckGo and it works pretty good.
I wouldn’t crap down Google employees’ throats if they were starving to death.
Google is cutting it’s own throat...the sooner it dies out, the better.

But...on the .cn version when you google Tienanmen Square all you get are articles (and photos) of a peaceful,beloved place and not a single word (or photo) connected to the murder of 2,000 kids by the Butchers of Beijing.
More proof that for google money and politics are the only things that matter.

Can’t answer your question...I don’t know. Maybe one of our tech-savvy freezers may know.
I just know it works pretty good.
Like the post above: search for for different things like muslim, islam, etc. in both google and DuckDuckGo and see whatcha get. Sometimes, there is an enormous disparity between the two....makes ya wonder who’s censoring who.
In mid-July 2008, I watched in mounting horror while google systematically and deliberately ‘disappeared’ over half a million hits on image searches for ‘obama birth certificate’.
