"To help identify and prevent fraud, information about how you use your device, including the approximate number of phone calls or emails you send and receive, will be used to compute a device trust score when you attempt a purchase," Apple explained."

Another in a long list of why I refuse to own anything Apple. Not that others don’t do the same.
The American public is far from understanding that ANYTHING you do on the Net or on cellular networks is PUBLIC INFORMATION to be stolen and sold. And it is. By all of them.
Ignorance is our greatest commodity.
This doesn’t sound any different than what credit card companies do when you’re on an out-of-state trip and you run your credit card to buy gas and you get a call from them asking if it’s really you.
Okay, like my credit score, where can I see, update/protest, my trust rating? Since this will likely impact commerce, I presume this is covered under existing Fair Credit laws? Will I get letter each time I am denied something because of my Trust Score?
“Are you a good citizen?”
Big Apple is watching YOU.
“you get a call from them asking if its really you.”

What do they do if people only have a landline phone?
And this is supposedly the major tech company that spies on its users the least.
FACT is that, all of the major tech companies, online and offline, do deep spying on all of their users, especially those with social media outlets.
Sounds like the “Social Credit Score” used by the Communist Chinese government.
“Big Apple is watching YOU.”

I can understand it’s helpfulness re:security, but it does bring to mind China’s “Social Credit System”.

You beat me to that mention, dangit.
Very bad. A computer system, often called “artificial intelligence,” rates you, and then the rating is used to determine how you’re treated.
I suspect it is the same. We are being rated by the Chinese. Nice.
[Another in a long list of why I refuse to own anything Apple.]
Can’t disagree with ya on that one.
[FACT is that, all of the major tech companies, online and offline, do deep spying on all of their users, especially those with social media outlets.]
That is correct.
[Are you a good citizen?]
Correct. Which will eventually become “Would you like to be able to buy or sell? Because you’ll need this Mark to be able to buy and sell. You DO want to be able to buy and sell, don’t you? You need this Mark to buy and sell to feed yourself and your family. You ARE a good citizen, aren’t you, citizen?”
Sounds crazy, I know. Tell me we’re not headed there.
At warp speed.
[Big Apple is watching YOU.]
In Satan’s Soviet Socialist Garden, Apple watches YOU!
Is a ChiCom style “Social Rating”.
I think this is phase 1 of Apple trying to become a financial service. It doesnt make sense to verify a purchase when youre already going to a credit card thatll do the same thing. But theyre already setup to do financial transfers through their Apple Cash system. Wouldnt be that much more effort to establish a credit system like PayPal.
