Rosenstein doesn't even have to be fired. The position of Deputy Attorney General was never established through legislation by Congress. It was created internally within the DOJ through an executive branch memorandum back in the early 1950s.
President Trump could issue an executive order tomorrow that changes the Deputy AG's responsibilities so that he's only responsible for overseeing the janitorial staff at DOJ headquarters.

Who said anything is being dragged out? Last I heard the fourth Carter Page FISA application renewal is being released by the end of the week with the specific pages requested.
Then the Bruce Ohr FBI interviews will be released next week.
Nothing has occurred to indicate that won’t happen other than John Brennan crying publicly that someone not cooperate and save him from prison.
