White House Econ Adviser Debunks Obama's Claim He Deserves Credit for Economy

The current economic boom has nothing to do with President Obama, White House economic adviser Kevin Hassett suggested Monday in the briefing room. In a speech last week at the University of Illinois, Obama claimed credit for the improved economic outlook. It was his policies, he noted that paved the way for the current rate.

"Don't forget when the recovery started," he told the audience.

"You don't have to reach far" for an explanation as to why the economy is looking up, Hassett said. Trump deregulated the economy, oversaw massive tax cuts, and cut corporate tax rates, all which have resulted in business returning to the U.S. and creating jobs. He had several charts to prove it.

“I would assert that if you look at the collective body of evidence, the notion that what we’re seeing right now is just a continuation of recent trends is not super defensible,” he said.

Asked again whether Obama deserves any credit for today's economy, Hassett explained that he prefers to give credit or blame based on policy, not individuals. Obama's policies, he said, certainly did not help GDP. The Affordable Care Act, and his increased marginal tax rates on small businesses, for instance, "did not help" growth. "I wonder what was going on in the heads" of Obama's economists, like Cash for Clunkers, he added.

On the other hand, the 2008 recession was "not Obama's fault," Hassett conceded.

One reporter wanted to know if it was a coincidence that Hassett showed up at the briefing just a few days after Obama's speech. Hassett thanked her for the question, noting he was not there just to debunk Obama. He had "wanted to show these slides for quite awhile."

Anyone who thinks, really thinks, 0bama has deserves one iota of credit for anything good that happens in the USA, not just with respect to the economy, is a liar, extremely naive, or just plain stupid.

Obama has barely begun campaigning for Democrats and he already is the 100% village buffoon. I wonder how many Democrat Candidates running for elective office will avoid Obama like he has “The Kiss Of Political Death”. The Dems could toss Obama & Clinton into the garbage heap of obscurity and bring out the bench sitter powerhouse, Joe Biden!!! Yep, that’s it!!! Biden will bring them Dems out to vote...”NOT”!!!

Obama could not have successfully run a lemonade stand in the Sahara Desert. Now he wants to claim credit for the Trump economy. The man is insane and totally unaware that video tape was invented before his 8 years of failure as POIUS

The 2006 recession was Nancy Pelosi’s fault

I disagree. Obama has had a considerable influence on today’s economy. Obama effectively had his boot on the throat of the US economy. Pressure was building for a breakout but Obama kept up his liberal agenda. When Pres Trump erased Obama’s influence and his anti business policies the leash on the was released and the US economy blossomed.

On the other hand, the 2008 recession was "not Obama's fault," Hassett conceded.

Not on his own, but as a Senator he joined the Democrats in blocking the GOP's efforts to reel in F&F.

Bill Clinton blames Democrats for the mortgage mess

And as a lawyer, Obama fought to lower the lending standards for "disadvantaged" borrowers. About half either defaulted or filed for bankruptcy.

With landmark lawsuit, Barack Obama pushed banks to give subprime loans to Chicago’s African-Americans

So yes, President Obama did inherit a bad economy, from Senator Obama and Attorney at Law Obama.

For every year Donald Trump remains president, Obama will see his legacy disappear exponentially.

In 6 more years, people will say ‘O-who?’

Obama paved the way, in the sense that he kept the economy suppressed for so long that there was a lot of pent up demand, and a lot to be gained when his over-regulation was relieved.

The benefits of the tax cuts are only beginning, and are mostly yet to be realized.

I dare Obama to go on the campaign trail for any democrat running for congress, and make the same claims he made last Friday. Whoever the democrat candidate Obama campaigns for, will have to defend Obama’s claims.

I can see it now, where Obama says, “vote for this candidate, and we promise more of the same as when I was president”. The audience will erupt with laughter and incredulity.

And that is what sinks any claim Obama thought he had on the current boom.

Not entirely. GW doesn't get a pass. GW was known as Open-Checkbook George for a reason. And GW was the one who started the massive bailouts in his last 2 years.
