White House says anonymous 'coward' behind NYT op-ed should resign
The Hill ^ | September 5, 2018 | Tal Axelrod

White House Press Secretary Sarah Sanders ripped the anonymous senior White House staffer who wrote an op-ed for the New York Times slamming President Trump’s conduct.

“The individual behind this piece has chosen to deceive, rather than support, the duly elected President of the United States,” she said in a statement. “He is not putting country first, but putting himself and his ego ahead of the will of the American people.”

This coward should do the right thing and resign,” she added.

The statement follows criticism from Trump himself, who called the op-ed’s author “gutless.”

The author of the op-ed wrote that there are multiple people in the administration who are acting as a check on the president’s “misguided impulses.”

“We want the administration to succeed and think that many of its policies have already made America safer and more prosperous. But we believe our first duty is to this country, and the president continues to act in a manner that is detrimental to the health of our republic. That is why many Trump appointees have vowed to do what we can to preserve our democratic institutions while thwarting Mr. Trump’s more misguided impulses until he is out of office,” the staffer writes.

The White House aide says meetings with Trump often “veer off topic and off the rails” and slams the president as “amoral.”

“The root of the problem is the president’s amorality. Anyone who works with him knows he is not moored to any discernible first principles that guide his decision making,” the staffer says.

Any successes from the White House “have come despite — not because of — the president’s leadership style, which is impetuous, adversarial, petty and ineffective,” the author wrote.

he adds.

Sanders’ statement also issued a defense of the president.

“President Trump has laid out a bold and ambitious agenda. Every day since taking office, he has fulfilled the promises he made. His accomplishments in less than two years have been astounding,” she said.

The Trump administration has repeatedly railed against The New York Times, slamming it as “fake news” and labeling it the “failing” New York Times.

“We are disappointed, but not surprised, that the paper chose to publish this pathetic, reckless and selfish op-ed. This is a new low for the so-called ‘paper of record,’ and it should issue an apology…This is just another example of the liberal media’s concerted effort to discredit the president,” Sanders said.

[When did anonymous sources become journalism?]

Well, especially since an obvious fraud who had been a community organizer was put in as pResident.

Or should I say, ESPECIALLY since then.

My local newspaper does not accept anonymous op eds and editorials for print. Says so in their submission instructions. I wonder if the NYT violated their own policy to print this garbage.

Was rarely used until Woodward and Bernstein. Now everyone is deepthroat. Rumor and innuendo are reported as fact now.

I think it is a fake plant to instill doubt in Trump’s mind about people around him

I agree with you. The deep state is desparate and will do anything to get Trump out. Makes me wonder what the extent of their illegal activities have been. Something is very wrong.

I would suspect that this op-ed made its way via a Kinko’s in Texas to the NYT.

Everything in the article is absurd. All These successes are happening in spite of Trump? The “government” is just achieving all this stuff on its own, just wow. Then how come that wasn’t happening before?

Not that I believe anything the NY Slimes prints, but if it is for real who do you think it is? Sessions? Sounds like it to me.

It could be anyone or nobody at all.

I don't get it. There is no meat in the op-ed piece. Nothing juicy at all.

Boo hoo. Trump is too nice to Putin, too mean to our "traditional" allies. This is news? Swamp crybabies have been whining about this since it began.

So why is the Times hanging their reputation on this empty nothingburger of a piece? I'm not seeing what their end game is here.

In all honesty, this another thing that the New York Times and their elite media establishment can not win on both in the long and short run.

I wonder if this and the Bob Woodward book were constructed with a mindset that longs for the days (in about 1972 or 1973) when the Times and the Washington Post could do hit pieces like these, to go along with the book, and then Walter Cronkite and Dan Rather would feature those sorts of stories on the CBS Evening News (and then of course would be a lecture on one of Norman Lear’s programs later at night about how heartless and/or basically stupid Richard Nixon and his supporters really were).

Nowadays, with FR, Breitbart, and other forms of discussing and sharing stories and information, something like this can be likely easily seen through as it’s genuinely fraudulent self. No wonder why trust in media is below the basement level these days.
