White House says anonymous 'coward' behind NYT op-ed should resign
The Hill ^ | September 5, 2018 | Tal Axelrod

White House Press Secretary Sarah Sanders ripped the anonymous senior White House staffer who wrote an op-ed for the New York Times slamming President Trump’s conduct.

“The individual behind this piece has chosen to deceive, rather than support, the duly elected President of the United States,” she said in a statement. “He is not putting country first, but putting himself and his ego ahead of the will of the American people.”

This coward should do the right thing and resign,” she added.

The statement follows criticism from Trump himself, who called the op-ed’s author “gutless.”

The author of the op-ed wrote that there are multiple people in the administration who are acting as a check on the president’s “misguided impulses.”

“We want the administration to succeed and think that many of its policies have already made America safer and more prosperous. But we believe our first duty is to this country, and the president continues to act in a manner that is detrimental to the health of our republic. That is why many Trump appointees have vowed to do what we can to preserve our democratic institutions while thwarting Mr. Trump’s more misguided impulses until he is out of office,” the staffer writes.

The White House aide says meetings with Trump often “veer off topic and off the rails” and slams the president as “amoral.”

“The root of the problem is the president’s amorality. Anyone who works with him knows he is not moored to any discernible first principles that guide his decision making,” the staffer says.

Any successes from the White House “have come despite — not because of — the president’s leadership style, which is impetuous, adversarial, petty and ineffective,” the author wrote.

he adds.

Sanders’ statement also issued a defense of the president.

“President Trump has laid out a bold and ambitious agenda. Every day since taking office, he has fulfilled the promises he made. His accomplishments in less than two years have been astounding,” she said.

The Trump administration has repeatedly railed against The New York Times, slamming it as “fake news” and labeling it the “failing” New York Times.

“We are disappointed, but not surprised, that the paper chose to publish this pathetic, reckless and selfish op-ed. This is a new low for the so-called ‘paper of record,’ and it should issue an apology…This is just another example of the liberal media’s concerted effort to discredit the president,” Sanders said.

"STUPID"? What better way for Trump to PROVE to the world that the news media has become a total joke than for them to have run an anonymous Op-Ed written by he himself!

Would be a total embarrassment!

Heh.

To anyone paying attention, the story comes across as “NYT Proves Deep State Exists”.

Yes, it was Bret Baier’s show. He’ll probably write it up tomorrow.

The Left is imploding. That’s the reason for the clown show in the senate.

I totally agree...........

Pence is getting hammered on Twitter (mostly by the Left) over the word “lodestar.” I wonder if he’ll have to deny it. Maybe he’s being set up.

If he did it, which he did NOT do, it wouldn't have been worth it at all and to suppose that he did do it, is STUPID!

OTOH...don't feel too badly about it; there have been a few others here who also posted that patently ridiculous thing as well.

The president may TWEET some outlandish things ( I LOVE THEM ALL! ), but I doubt that he has 1) the time 2) inclination 3) ability to write something even remotely like the stupid Op-Ed, in words and style that is the antithesis of his normal screeds.

And NO, it would NOT be an "embarrassment" for the MSM nor the lefties! It would badly tarnish Trump!

Hmmmmmmmmmm...perhaps Pence IS being set up.

After all, they went after Spiro Agnew first...before they really went after Nixon in full force. Remember that it was Agnew who said "THE NATTERING NABOBS OF NEGATIVITY". :-)

Every single person on Twitter calling Pence “lodestar” was a leftwinger. Made me think: SET UP! And as you know, I’m no fan of Pence.

Here’s the story:

New York Times acknowledges that Trump’s “policies have already made America safer and more prosperous.”

Yes, looks premeditated and done in a way to cast Pence as the one who did it. How did they all know that Pence had used the word "lodestar"? I didn't.

I'm no fan of Pence either; however, as a VEEP, he has absolutely NO input nor say in things and I doubt that Trump ever asks for his opinion/takes his advice on things. And just HOW would Pence, or most anyone, "save Trump from himself"? The only one who has claimed to do that, has been Ivanka and even she has said that he doesn't always listen to her.

Do you honestly believe that Trump has done and said everything that has been claimed by those who HATE him?

I highly doubt it would be Pence. Keep in mind - this person would had to have revealed their identity to the New York Times. That alone would tell you that this will eventually leak at some point.

Pence with presidential aspirations would not have been dumb enough to alienate the Trump base. My guess is it will be someone that will eventually use this to capitalize on the story at some point in the future with a new book. The lodestar thing - while funny - may be misdirection.
