South Africa 'unexpectedly' slides into recession as agricultural production plummets

Full title: "South Africa 'unexpectedly' slides into recession as agricultural production plummets in wake of plans to seize white-owned farmland."

Gee, who could have possibly anticipated that threatening to steal (that is, expropriate without compensation) land from farmers who have worked it for generations would cause farmers to cut back on planting? Thus, we have Bloomberg telling us, "South Africa's economy unexpectedly shrank for the second consecutive quarter in the three months through June."

The recession, based on a second-quarter decline in GDP of 0.8%, is entirely due to a steep decline in agricultural production: "the agriculture market fell back by 29.2 per cent, taking 0.8 per cent off GDP."

This was entirely predictable. Half a year ago, I warned that with expropriation of white farmers, South Africa is embarking on a course headed toward disaster:

But, but, but..................Trump's fault. Had he not made disparaging comments, the crops would be abundant but the farmers are apparently too depressed to work the fields as they should. Right?

If you look at the numbers, farmers already had this game plan more than a year ago and banks probably knew it spring of 2017.

Wow. Nobody saw that coming. Nobody.

...the agriculture market fell back by 29.2 per cent...

A mere blip. Starvation is, after all, only a social construct.

Without all the flashing neon lights and airport tarmac wandmen gesturing wildly to Zimbabwe’s execrable example of decline, WHO ON EARTH would have expected THIS from South Africa, as they carefully followed that well-marked, predictable path..?

I hope they starve.

Sorry to say that but sometimes nations need to learn from their mistakes.

Land collectivization has a long, documented and inevitable history of events that seemingly needs to be relearned, refreshed and rejected.

So many people fall into the “It just hasn’t been tried by the “right” people.” Millions may suffer, thousands to millions could die.

Now you know why Black Panther was such a work of fiction, show me the black led nation that has surpassed the standards of the west or even been able to equal the performance of its weakest nation states.

A REAL African farm:

A place where black dudes hang out, staring at you.

ALL DAY.

The whole continent..?

Yes.

Glad to see the quotes in the actual headline.

Sorry, South Africa. You saw what the Fraud tried to do here...

It won’t be long before Sarah Mclachlan is on TV begging for cash to feed the needy Black Africaners with pics in the background of starving kids with flies on their faces.

Weird. What could possibly explain this?

a second-quarter decline in GDP of 0.8%, is entirely due to a steep decline in agricultural production:

It is early spring-time in South Africa. The threat of confiscation means banks won't lend, owners won't invest, and farmers won't grow. If whatever it is they grow in S.A. doesn't get planted in the next 6-8 weeks, the window is closed.

Ah, yes - the ‘unexpectedly’ meme returns, predictably. It’s only unexpected to those who already know, but refuse to admit, the truth.

Food crops - corn and wheat. Principal meat exports - poultry and beef. If the 29% reduction holds, SA just went from a food exporting country to a food importing country in a single season.
