Cardinal Blase Cupich, the Archbishop of Chicago, has downplayed bombshell allegations that Pope Francis knowingly rehabilitated an abusive American cardinal, saying the pope has a bigger agenda to worry about, such as protecting the environment and migrants. In a television interview with NBC News, Cardinal Cupich commented on a recent 11-page statement by Archbishop Carlo Maria Viganò, former papal nuncio to the United States, that alleges a series of misdeeds by high-ranking Catholic prelates, including Pope Francis himself. The pope has a bigger agenda. Hes gotta get on with other things, of talking about the environment and protecting migrants and carrying on the work of the Church, Cardinal Cupich said.

Interesting; Pope Bergoglio is an Argentinian, from Buenos Aires. Throughout the rest of Latin America, Argentines from BA are despised for looking down at the darker people prevalent on the continent. Racism? Change the focus from the important things to wild charges, global warming and immigration.
Familiar stuff. I can't, however, recall offhand what Paul said about globull warming.
These so called men of the church are corrupt.
Straight from the head of the rotting fish.
You just lost 75% of the remaining few Catholics who still go to church.
You a$$hole! we needed the church to bear witness to what is right. The world is slipping into the rabbit hole. It is lost. It has no idea where it is going. When abortionists sell baby parts, and incinerate those that they can’t sell (past sell-by-date), and the church hasn’t used its power and money to condemn that, then you know the church has lost its way too.
If all these a$$holes care about is global warming and migrants, then the church has no moral purpose here on Earth, and may as well just shut up while “migrants” march in, rape the women, burn the churches, and kill the men.
The gay mafia is pulling the vatican’s strings.
I don’t give too hoots in Hell who this guy is, if he’s covering up criminal behavior, he needs jail time. He should be tried as a co-conspirpator and go to jail. As is the case with our politicians, the only we will stop this behavior is to make the law violators pay a dear price. A robe, a dangling cross and a funny hat don’t buy you “secular absolution.” Catholics should be even more outraged than I am, because it’s their church that’s taking the hit.
He’s an ethnic Italian. Mama mia! Must be we don’t like pizza.
Has he no fear of God?
I don’t believe any Catholic will stop paying his tithes and offerings, or leave the Church, because of global warming.
The sex abuse scandal, on the other hand . . .
Won’t matter if parishioners stop tithing.
Governments all over the world are giving the Vatican billions....
“Throughout the rest of Latin America, Argentines from BA are despised for looking down at the darker people prevalent on the continent.”
The “white” Spaniards, Germans ( i.e. leftover Nazis) and Portuguese who are, for the most part, the anointed leaders through out the whole Western Hemisphere, south of the Rio Grande River, have been pissing on the indigenous people of that same region since then showed up from Europe three or four centuries ago. All of the “modern” Presidents of Mexico are as white as the Irish in this country. They are all castilianos not mestizos!
“Latino” is a stupid term—as if everyone in Latin America is the same. Argentinians are 97% white...and Bergoglio is 100% of Italian ancestry.
We're on an indispensable learning curve.
First, we're finding the true and traditional limits of the power of the papacy: the Pope speaks as Peter when he defends Scripture and capital-T Tradition, "strengthens the brethren" in upright Christian living, and throws the damn wolves-in-shepherds-clothing out of the sheepfold.
And if he doesn't do that, then he deserves a stern "Get thee behind me, Satan."
Second, we're learning the ultimate responsibility of the laity. Don't flee: stay and fight. Don't leave: lead.
Yes, we're working out a strong "development of doctrine" in the sensus fidelium --- the Church Militant in defense of Holy Mother the Church.

Class action with financial penalties just mean the pervy priests get to rape us and then rob us, too.
All the financial penalties that have been paid out over the past 20+ years --- from hush money, to confidential settlements, civil liability, pay-offs: it just spreads the costs to the Good Guys, the blameless pewsitters, and lets the Bad Guys off the hook.
The mitred princes are draining the Church of her whole patrimony built up over generations, robbing our grandparents who worked in the mines and mills and built the schools and cathedrals... our grandparents and our grandchildren.
If they got hit with huge RICO penalties they´d probably sell off the parishes and schools. St. Brigid´s will be an art gallery, Sacred Heart an upscale condominium.
No. I want the perpetrators, and their enablers, in jail. I´m sorry.
If they serve hard time it´s no more than justice, and if the hard time makes them repent, so much the better for their eternity.

Tell us how you really feel ;).
I agreee and wow, that was a 2x4 between the eyes on accuracy.
Supposedly it was McCarrick that got him appointed so I wouldn’t doubt it.
Is it any wonder that the Catholic Church is in the toilet?
It has turned into a political organization with a cult like leader.
Saw his interview with NBC and you’re exactly right - when he said that Bergoglio had important things to worry about, like “the environment . . .” he gave the clear impression of someone in panic trying to change the topic.
Cupich is either a moron or complicit, and I’m betting both - we Catholics are worried about a cabal of homosexual clergy grooming and buggering adolescents, and he’s telling us we should be focused on recycling. Just a total butthead, especially compared to Cardinal George who preceded him.
The laity should demand a central role in the investigation of this travesty, and when it’s complete, they should require that any of the cardinals who were associated with covering up this business, or even knew of it and didn’t do anything to stop it be prevented from voting for the next Pope.
And the next Pope can’t come soon enough.
That is how Catholic will vote on this latest scandal - by walking away. It is already happening. Churches in my diocese are less than half full. We will probably close one third of Parishes in the next 3 years. The Bishops have done nothing to keep the flock together.
The Catholic Church is one gigantic cluster blank.
