What's the matter with Arizona?

President Trump was elected in no small part by advocating for strong border security and immigration enforcement. So why are we, as a nation, still debating immigration policy? Part of the reason is that the voters have sent mixed signals with whom they elect versus what they really want. The politicians would understand if the voters followed through with a clear message.

Consider the case of Arizona. Arizona voters enacted their own immigration law, which was tough on illegal aliens and border enforcement. But at the federal level, two of the four Republicans in the Gang of Eight, who wrote legislation that was very pro-illegal alien, were from Arizona. The conservatives in the Senate voted against that legislation. That is the problem. Arizona has two senators who claim to be conservative but vote moderate.

Let me get the obligatory McCain history out of the way. I think Senator McCain served his country with distinction while he was in the military. He should be commended for his service there. But if you think that service makes him sacrosanct, immune to any criticism, you are living in a fantasy world. No conservative would co-author legislation with Senator Russ Feingold putting limits on campaign funding that effectively serves as an incumbent, AKA Deep State, protection bill. That was McCain's signature legislation. No conservative would co-author legislation with Senator Ted Kennedy. But McCain did. He is a moderate Republican, not a conservative. And I am truly sorry that he has been stricken with cancer. But cancer can be survived, and hopefully he will recover.

Then there is the curious case of Senator Flake. I won't try to relitigate all of Flake's curious commentary here;

Arizona Republicans have a clear choice to pick a solid, long-term conservative in Doctor Kelli Ward. Dr. Ward is a proven conservative who votes conservative, eloquently advocates for conservative principles, and knows when to support a president who is implementing conservative principles or colleagues who will vote conservatively in the U.S. Senate. In Dr. Ward, they would not have to worry about silly NeverTrump behavior undermining the president or silly immigration tactics undermining the rule of law.

I pray that Senator McCain fully recovers from his cancer. And I pray that Arizona Republicans don't make the same mistake thrice.

John McCain is not a Conservative or moderate. John McCain is for John McCain.

I voted for Kelli and I hope she wins.

As for what happened in AZ, people are moving here from California and other liberal states.

The power of incumbency is awesome.

That’s why we need term limits.

Heck they got enough that they could switch McCain to an Independent or even a Democrat and he would hold the office in perpetuity.

I suspect the problem is this:

Arizona is home to 10 of the world’s billionaires
Mark Shoen, Amerco, net worth of $3.2 billion, No. 729 overall
Joe Shoen, Amerco, $2.7 billion, 887th place (tie)
Bennett Dorrance, real estate developer and Campbell Soup heir, $2.7 billion, 887th place (tie)
Bob Parsons, founder of GoDaddy Inc., $2.7 billion , 887th place (tie)
Arturo Moreno, owner of Los Angeles Angels, $2.5 billion, No. 965
Ernest Garcia II, owner of DriveTime Automotive, $2.2 billion, No. 1103
Stewart Horejsi, Berkshire Hathaway investor, $1.8 billion, No. 1339 (tie)
John Kapoor, founder of Insys Therapeutics, $1.8 billion, No. 1339 (tie)
Jerry Moyes, founder of Swift Transportation, $1.7 billion, No. 1394
Peter Sperling, former Apollo Education Group executive, $1.4 billion, No. 1650

Arizona and Arkansas are two very dark states. Lots and lots of bad stuff happens inside the borders of those two states.

It must be stopped that so many people in cemeteries will otherwise vote for other left-leaning and Deep State supporting politicians in perpetuity.

Let’s not forget that Arizonans (above or below ground) voted out Joe Arpaio.

I think Senator McCain served his country with distinction while he was in the military.

Really? Do you know how many of our aircraft he destroyed as a flight student and as a squadron pilot? Do you know how he conducted himself during the fire in Forrestal? Do you know how and why, immediately after the fire, he was transferred to Oriskany? Do you know why, as a POW, he became known as the 'songbird'? Do you know anything about his conduct toward his first wife, after his release from Hanoi? If your answer is no, then ask McCain, the sorry bastard. Military distinction??? Hardly, in the opinion of most.

Anyone appointed to succeed McCain will have to run in 2020 to fill out the rest of his term which ends in 2022. That’s 3 elections. I say give it to McSally win or lose next Tuesday. Make her work for it. We’ll be able to can her if she goes RINO. She supposedly represents our best chance of keeping the seat this year. If McSally wins next week it will mean 2 failed primaries for Ward. That would disqualify her. There’s the Newsmax guy who took on McLame in 2010.

McCain reminded me of Arlen Specter for some reason. Perhaps it’s because they thought they had what it takes to be POTUS.
