Mitt Romney (R) said the "last 24 hours" have confirmed his "faith" in the U.S. justice system after President Trump's former campaign chairman was convicted on eight felony counts while his former personal lawyer pleaded guilty to various counts including campaign finance law violations.
"The events of the last 24 hours confirm that conduct by highly-placed individuals was both dishonorable and illegal," Romney, who is running for the Senate in Utah, wrote in a tweet on Wednesday.
"Also confirmed is my faith in our justice system and my conviction that we are a nation committed to the rule of law."
Romney, who ran for president in 2012 as the Republican nominee, did not mention President Trump, whom he has occasionally come out against.
On Tuesday, a jury found former Trump campaign chairman Paul Manafort guilty on eight charges of bank and tax fraud. Minutes later, Trump's former personal lawyer and fixer Michael Cohen pleaded guilty to eight counts of bank fraud, tax fraud and campaign finance law violations.
Cohen implicated Trump in the campaign finance violations, claiming the then-candidate had directed him to pay "hush money" to silence two women alleging affairs with Trump.
Republican lawmakers have, for the most part, stayed out of the fray surrounding Cohen's stunning accusation.
House Speaker Paul Ryan (R-Wis.) said he needs "more information" before coming to conclusions and Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) did not respond to requests for comment, according to CNN.
What a turd!
another alleged republican who can’t just simply be quiet
Come November this ass hat will be a US Senator.
To think I once supported this maggot. FU globalist, swamp creature Romney.
What a douche bag.
Utah Morons are going to elect this POS to be a US Senator.
Gutter crawling slime bag. He always has been....you just cannot wipe that much liberal Massachusetts off of you.
It’s funny how Mitt is such a fan of the “rule of law” but is absolutely against the enforcement of immigration laws.
“Also confirmed is my faith in our justice system and my conviction that we are a nation committed to the rule of law.”
Except for democrats and your fellow liberals, right Mitt?
I’m assuming he was taken out of context. I mean, it’s always good that bad guys are caught, but still. This one is so obviously political that it hurts.
I wonder what cockroaches would scatter if Nancy Pelosi was put under this magnifying glass. Heck, we were able to eventually see the Chinese spy with the naked eye. Imagine the headlines if Trump’s driver turned out to be a russian spy.
Mitt is going to be another Collins type, when he gets back into office. what a POS.
OK. what will you say when the REAL criminals are indicted? That Trump is weaponizing and seeking revenge? Could it be that YOU were involved in the fraudulent dossier? Answer: Yes..........You funded a portion of that dossier, along with your buddy Bill Kristol and ‘We-don’t-say-his-name”.
So he has faith in the Justice System, but not GOD........................
Me too, as well as John McCain in 2008 (only because of Sarah Palin).
What petty, small, smarmy, greasy, low life, despicable, chunk of vomit. He is not even a man, but a spineless worm, a poseur playing to the cheap seats.
Once an idiot always an idiot. Democrats like Romney should not be allowed into the GOP. When will we learn?
