The Trump administration announced a fair housing discrimination complaint against social media giant Facebook on Friday, saying the way the company targets ads can be used to screen out people based on race, sex or other protected categories.
The complaint goes to the heart of Facebooks business model, which depends on being able to offer advertisers micro-targeting.
Facebook mines extensive user data and classifies its users based on protected characteristics. Facebooks ad targeting tools then invite advertisers to express unlawful preferences by suggesting discriminatory options, the Housing and Urban Development Department said in the complaint.
Among those options are physical disabilities, parents with children and even religious practices advertisers are allowed to show their ads only to people Facebook deems interested in Jesus or the Christian Church, for example.
Those practices could violate the Civil Rights Act, HUD said in the complaint, dated August 13.

Hooray!
This could be termed: Screwing Facebook With Their Own Tool!
Facebook another item on the sell list.
Exactly. In earlier days it was called "hoist with his own petard." And the Bible includes many references to those who fall into the very pits they have dug for others. It is an amazing thing to see when it happens.
Google next, I hope.
BTW, what the heck does this have to do with housing?
Next perhaps RICO for interfering with businesses.
When you get right down to it, Facebook, Google, and Youtube or nothing more then strip malls - places small businesses can set up a public face to sell their goods and services.
Would it be legal for the owners of the strip mall to shut down a business only because they don’t like their opinions.
It is worse then a strip mall since these three own almost all the “property” and they have been conspired together in a way that can be interpreted as restraint of trade.
Facebook, Google and Youtube believe they are too big to be brought under control. Well the Robber Barons of the late 1800s thought the same thing.
Financially painful, too.
Good!
Facebook has been schlonged! Long live President Trump!
They are screening out people with handicaps from housing applications.
Rule 4: “Make the enemy live up to its own book of rules.”
Alinsky's Rules for Radicals
Thanks. I suppose a focused complaint may have more odds of success. Obviously this problem is systemic.
This will be an important case to watch.
- "Power is not only what you have but what the enemy thinks you have."
- "Never go outside the expertise of your people."
- "Whenever possible go outside the expertise of the enemy."
- "Make the enemy live up to its own book of rules."
- "Ridicule is man's most potent weapon."
- "A good tactic is one your people enjoy."
- "A tactic that drags on too long becomes a drag."
- "Keep the pressure on."
- "The threat is usually more terrifying than the thing itself."
- "The major premise for tactics is the development of operations that will maintain a constant pressure upon the opposition."
- "If you push a negative hard and deep enough it will break through into its counterside"
- "The price of a successful attack is a constructive alternative."
- "Pick the target, freeze it, personalize it, and polarize it."

You left out the part where you dont pay rent to Facebook, nor hold a legal lease for your “storefront”.
If you run a business, then stop being cheap and go get an actual website.
Headline feeds a Democrat talking point. specifically this violates HUD regulations with regards to real estate discrimination and appears the ad policy does encourage such discrimination.
seems you can go after Face Book using the same laws that are being used to force Christian business owners to do business with groups and people they find morally corrupt.
It’s great President Trump is firing back but I’ll be very surprised if anything at all comes from it. Most likely, this is the last we’ll hear about it.
