President Trump Rips Into Social Media Censorship
dailycaller.com ^ | 08/18/2018

President Donald Trump took aim at social media platforms early Saturday morning, criticizing them for suppressing and even attempting to silence conservative voices.

“They are closing down the opinions of many people on the Right …” he complained in a tweet.

Trump’s tweets followed the news that Facebook had been caught outright blocking videos from the conservative organization PragerU

The president continued by claiming that censorship is “a very dangerous thing & absolutely impossible to police,” pointing out the fact that although he has often complained about “Fake News,” he has never moved to silence his critics.

I'd say let's start looking at the laws that give these sites protection under the definition of being platforms and not publishers, laws like the DMCA.

So who initiates this?

Who starts looking that has standing?

Do you expect Congress to do this? The Executive branch? A private firm or citizen?

I'm not against that outcome or even the means you propose, but I don't see anyone in government willing to take this on.

President Trump tweets about it, and I'm glad to see it brought up, but that's far from doing something.

With one order, he could totally declassify the documents Reps Bob Goodlatte and Devin Nunces have asked for, too. Or fire Sessions, Rosenstein, et al. But he doesn't.

I'd really love to see what you propose, or what I said the President should do, but I just don't see it happening.

Very frustrating!

Is Fakebook a publicly traded company? Charge them with discriminatory acts and fine them 50% of their valuation. The SEC can find something.

While I generally agree, it has little to do with protected speech.

The crux of the matter is that they claim freedom from liability based upon their claim they do not police content.

Yet they police content as any other publisher does.

Yes, they are trying to have it both ways. And soon the courts will hammer them for it. And somebody will get rich. Maybe dozens.

But I contend they can police content if they wish to do so.

And that freedom will cost them billions.

Pretty hilarious since Trump is accused of taking away Brennan’s First Amendment right of free speech!

Yes, they have an absolute right to police content as they see fit. And we have every right as a democratic republic to revoke the exemption from liability that they current enjoy as a platform, not a publisher.

I only have a fake identity on Facebook, which seems appropriate since Facebook has a fake attitude to free expression.

Well put.

Additionally, as a publicly held company, these vivid exhibitions of biased censorship are completely taboo; they damage the company’s stock, which is a violation of the corporation’s fiduciary duty to its shareholders.

Any action taken by a company that damages the market value of its stock, harms investors and can be taken up with the SEC in a complaint. If the action was not in direct furtherance of the company’s business plan, and especially if the action was blatantly contrary to it, the company can be sued, assessed punitive damages and made to restore lost value to its investors.

Fascistbook is playing cat-and-mouse with some very big sharks in very deep regulatory waters.

Since Prager U is a registered Religious organization this is illegal discrimination against religious beliefs. As it is with quite a few conservative organizations...

I have been boycotting it since I discovered that it’s a nuisance and a waste of time, that my real friends that I’ve known for years turn into incurable nudniks in their forum. Now I learn on top of it all that they are blocking conservatives, which is a cherry on top of a sh!t sundae, but even without this outrage, Facebook still sucks.

“Fascistbook is playing cat-and-mouse with some very big sharks in very deep regulatory waters.”

Aye, they are.

And the legal issue of policing content. You either do, or you don’t.

And it has nothing to do with denying access to “the public square” as many are crying about. Or even whether they are a utility or monopoly abusing their power (they are neither).

Somebody, perhaps dozens, will get rich off Facebook’s stupidity.

Most of us gave Barry boy a chance. We hoped and prayed all the way through things would change. They did not. Now we have sh*t and needles in the streets and more of the same everywhere. We dodged Hillery but the haters whether never Trumpers or the communists have banned together and doubled down because they want blood. It's obvious they've been outed as the most evil deranged %^$^$s this planet has to offer. <.p>

The media is just spewing more hatred then when the crap hits the fan they boitch it's all Trump's fault, or conservatives and refuse to read their own history. The immorality is the worst I've ever seen in my lifetime and the media fomenting such madness will destroy them completely sooner or later no matter the draconian BS they try.

No need to regulate.

Just remove their immunity granted under the DMCA.

If you censor your platform you lose all DMCA protection and shortly get sued into oblivion.

Just the threat would end censorship within an hour.

Talk about a stock collapse...whew

The nuclear option.

I expect some in Congress will sooner than later bring forth legislation which declares the major social media platforms to be “Critical National Infrastructure”, and on that basis regulations will be promulgated.

If they do this, it’s important they get it right. Be vigilant.

...who believe Facebook is an essential utility,...

My family members are on FB, and since we are so spread out through so many states, FB is the best way to keep in contact with them.

But FB is becoming tedious with its ads in the middle of conservative videos and actually blocking people for "hate speech." So my time on FB is very limited and will soon be non-existent. If I knew how to build my own website and invite family members, I'd do it in a heartbeat.

Now that all the social media is controlling what is posted, the social media is now responsible for what is posted, and must be sued for slander or defamation of character when appropriate and prosecuted when threats are posted.

They monitor what’s posted, and delete what they don’t like. They now OWN what’s posted. When a muzz posts muzz crap, then FB is 100% responsible for the ensuing murders, bombings and attacks because they DON’T delete the posting. They only delete postings by Spencer who warns against muzz violence.

If this were a rational world, pretty-face lip-biting crocodile tears suckerburg would be in a women’s prison for 30 years.
