Cardinal Raymond Burke has called for “open recognition” of the Catholic church’s homosexual culture in light of recent revelations of sexual abuse. “I believe that there needs to be an open recognition that we have a very grave problem of a homosexual culture in the Church,” Burke said in an interview Thursday, “especially among the clergy and the hierarchy, that needs to be addressed honestly and efficaciously.”
he former head of the church’s equivalent of the Supreme Court said it was already “clear after the studies following the 2002 sexual abuse crisis that most of the acts of abuse were in fact homosexual acts committed with adolescent young men.”
“There was a studied attempt to either overlook or to deny this,” he said, referring to the mainstream media cover-up of the homosexual nature of the abuse as well as such denial within the church itself.

but also, crimes should be pursed in the court of law, not civil court...
people should be punished...
at the same time, rumor and innuendo will not be the basis of accusations....
follow the law....
Scripture doesn’t require an unmarried state for any church office, so this solution would work.

Yes. Very sick, and I think in some of the cases described, diabolical. But pederasty and pedophilia are not the same and it seems to me that it's primarily cases of the former and it won't get fixed until it is addressed for what it is, and until we stop caring about whose ox gets gored in the fixing.

Gee umm I remember fifty-something years of some priest whacking one out during Friday confession and my granny pulled him out doing the number. We never returned and the priest was never fired. Funny when I think about that old perv scratching the wood while I was trying to think up some sin worthy of a hail Mary but horrors wondering about other kids not so lucky. The Eastern Rite Catholic Churches permits married priesthood. The men have to marry first before going into the seminary.
And the backlash should be HUGH!
It is all sickening but the other 22% of victims includes girls. Prepubescent boys are about 5 %. It is all disgusting and criminal. There are no excuses.
And who's going to do that? The child molesters up the chain of command? That's like asking a mafia Don to get rid of the criminals in his organization.

Those numbers are even more skewed when you consider that the number of homosexuals in the general population is 5% tops and probably closer to 2%. But take the 5% for easy calculation . . . and a young man is more than 80 times more likely to be molested than a young lady.
Cardinal Burke is a great man, and he had been assigned to Rome to head the office which would be cleaning up the deficiencies in seminaries in screening priesthood candidates. It was a good assignment, but as soon as Pope Benedict XVI was forced out [I say that sorrowfully, but I think it is true], Cardinal Burke was relieved of his assignment, and replaced by someone who Pope Francis wanted.
I remember being concerned about the change as it looked ominous, and it was.
I really miss Pope Benedict.
Try telling that to "conservative Catholics," though. They are literally convinced that the literal historical interpretation of Genesis was created whole cloth by American "hicks" in the nineteenth century!
The historical role or social utility of a religion doesn't mean a thing. All that matters is whether or not it is true.
It’s true, the problem isn’t with God its with the failing of his human servants. Corruption is a human malady as we see in the Federal Government.
