Hundreds Of Newspapers Denounce Trump's Attacks On Media In Coordinated Editorials
WBUR ^ | 8/16/18 | James Doubek

More than 300 news publications across the country are joining together to defend the role of a free press and denounce President Trump's ongoing attacks on the news media in coordinated editorials publishing Thursday, according a tally by The Boston Globe.

The project was spearheaded by editorial staff at the Globe, who write, "This relentless assault on the free press has dangerous consequences. We asked editorial boards from around the country – liberal and conservative, large and small – to join us today to address this fundamental threat in their own words."

Editorials are typically written by opinion writers and are considered separate from organizations' news coverage. NPR, for example, has a separate "opinion" category.

“Collusion!!!!!!”

The mainstream media is a cartel controlled by a few big corporations dependent on government regulators for broadcast licenses and use of the airwaves. The press today cannot be objective when it comes to the federal bureaucracy or the most powerful entrenched politicians in Congress. Presidents come and go, the bureaucracy and the long term residents of Capitol Hill remain.

The founders could not foresee the aggregation of the media or the co-dependency between the media companies and government. In 1776 anyone with access to a printing press could start a newspaper. As a result most towns had competing newspapers and competing editorial points of view.

Today’s media conglomerates do not support competition in the marketplace for ideas. They support government manipulation of the marketplace for their benefit and in turn they march lock step in support of the prevailing political establishment world view.

Oh yeah. This is really going to convince those deplorable peasants who support Trump that we're really looking out for their best interests and would never print anything that wasn't the Gospel Truth regarding the man. PLEASE! Don't they have any idea how ridiculous they sound?

Ineffectual liberal jerk-offs.

Yawn.

These guys are something else - did it ever dawn on them that COORDINATING their ATTACK on a guy actually getting something done for ordinary people is going to be underlining the point 45 is trying to make here?

The Press’ job is to keep EVERYBODY honest. They didn’t want that job any more. They went Mockingbird. Now they are upset they are being called on it.

They could always going back to their original job description. I’d actually buy their newspaper if there was the possibility of actual news appearing somewhere therein.

Anyone see that horrible, pinched-faced woman on Varney this morning?

She was from Kansas, comparing President Trump to Hitler and Stalin and all the time complaining about how the press is treated.

Never mind how she was treating the President.

A totally Hillary clone.

No one is attacking a ‘free press’ or the First Amendment... we're critiquing a ‘press’ that's biased, unfair, and toxic toward conservatives.

I remember a time when ‘the press’ didn't hire blacks (except for ‘black news’, or women (except for ‘cooking sections)... and now they won't hire conservatives. Our viewpoint is not included or wanted.

And just like blacks and women we're asking for a place at the table. And as usual biased newspapers are objecting on the grounds that ‘they are above criticism’...

" 'I hope you get raped and killed,' one person wrote to me just this week," MSNBC's Katy Tur said on air recently. " 'Raped and killed.' Not just me, but a couple of my female colleagues as well." She added that the letter ended with "MAGA," short for Trump's slogan, "Make America Great Again."

I'll bet money this hate mail was sent by a liberal pretending to be a conservative. Typical liberal tactic... see 'fake hate crimes': http://www.fakehatecrimes.org/

Katy Tur should turn this over to the FBI to be investigated rather than assuming a conservative wrote it. AND yes, liberals play members of the press to gin up their hatred of conservatives.

Apparently the editorial boards of some 300 newspapers are so self-absorbed they don't recognize how hysterically funny this really is. I'm not sure it even rises to the level of irony but it certainly is self-parody, rather on the level of that steady parade of Mafia figures that testified before Congress that there was no such thing as the Mafia. Trump has trolled a single parrot into squawking and suddenly the entire flock squawks in unison that there is no squawking in unison.

It's sad that every newspaper I subscribe to has fallen for this, but I cheer up when I reflect that that number is zero.
