He needs a bunch of guys to replace Iran and its surrogates if they fall, and to bankroll the surrogate militias for a while. The Syrian Arab Army is a mere shell of its former self, after years of casualties and desertions.
China would probably like just a couple of showpiece special forces assaults, and then a long period of major construction projects, which China ends up owning through one of their debt traps.
Syria would probably want tens of thousands of occupation forces/police, who would likely start getting picked off one at a time.
