A judge late Wednesday signed off on the settlement between the IRS and hundreds of tea party groups, closing out the last major legal battle over what all sides now agree was unwarranted and illegal targeting for political purposes.
The IRS agreed to pay $3.5 million to groups that were wronged by the intrusive inspections, and insists it’s made changes so that political targeting can’t occur in the future.
A few issues are still being fought over in the courts — including whether former IRS senior executive Lois G. Lerner will be allowed to forever shield her deposition explaining her behavior from public view, and whether the IRS should pay attorney fees — but this week’s decision closes out five years of litigation over the targeting itself.
“It shows that when a government agency desires to target citizens based on their viewpoints, a price will be paid,” said Edward Greim, the lawyer who led the class action case in federal court in Cincinnati.

$3.5 mil is peanuts compared to the damage done and Lerner (and others) should be in a Club Fed.
$3.5 million is NOTHING! Los Lerner will get more than that, from her effen PENSION! So make it $350 million.
Make Lois pay them.
My civil rights are worth a helluva lot more than $3.5 mil.
This isn’t justice or vindication; the payout must come personally from lerner and the others to have any meaning. Having the IRS - that is, the taxpayers - pay for her crimes will do nothing to prevent further lerners from their crimes. She needs to be left with nothing to her name, except maybe a cardboard sign. Obama should have also been nailed in the payout as well since it was all done on his order.

Money from the deep pockets of the federal government is not revenge, nor is it justice.
Unless legal retribution is taken on Lois Learner and the other criminals involved, it means very little.
However, count this decision as a moral victory worth its weight in gold.....then the affected Tea Partiers should use a slice of the judgement to institute personal legal action against fraulein Lerner and anyone else in the IRS hierarchy who employed nazi tactics in their anti-conservative krystalnacht.
