Aldi is a year into its five-year, $5.3 billion U.S. growth plan. The plan calls for building around 800 new stores, remodeling older locations and upgrading and expanding its assortment. By 2022, Aldi said it will be the third largest U.S. grocer by store count with 2,500 locations, behind Walmart and Kroger.
It's pretty simple," Aldi U.S. CEO Jason Hart told CNBC. "We are going where competitors are, we like to be close to the competition for convenience reasons for our customer. We like them to shop exclusively Aldi, but we recognize that consumers are going to more than one store."

I like Aldi’s. I don’t go there often because my Kroger is so much closer, and my Meijer has the best variety.
Coming third behind Walmart and Kroger seems obtainable, but it will likely be a distant 3rd.
.
These days one has to scan the whole spectrum.
Costco, and Sam’s Club are starting points but local stores may have them beat on some things; that is where Krogers and Savemart fit in.
We just had one open in the Costco complex.
At least for the one I know down in Gadsden.
And I'm not impressed with the silly stupidness of sticking a quarter in a slot to get a buggy to shop with.
No point in it.
And no bags.
What the hell is that all about?
More power to 'em, but I'll stick with Publix.
Aldi has 45 stores already in Texas and over 120 in Florida.
Not sure what this cub reporter is writing.
An ALDI opened near the Costco we shop at frequently, but after reading their ads, analyzing their prices we see nothing exciting enough to cause us to walk through their doors.
Our favorite store for life, long before we got married forty years ago has always been Smart & Final. We’ll stick with what we know, and like.
They had T-Bones....USDA Choice for $5.99/lb last week. Bought 6 steaks...8 lbs.
I’m in MA-—never even heard of Aldi’s, except here.

Aldis buys the milk from the dairy I work at. They sell it as a loss leader at about 99 cents when it takes us almost 2 dollar to bottle it
Nothing changes. Buyer’s beware.
The place that has the cheapest head of lettuce has the most expensive tomatoes.
No shopping carts in the parking lot blocking and scratching vehicles. BYOB.

Aldi has been in Texas for years - long enough that they've already had to re-model one of the local stores.
Now, if they said that Lidl was getting ready to expand into Texas, they'd have some credibility.
Just looked it up .... Aldi’s, as I remembers owns Trader Joe’s. Thankful;ly they operate with Trader Joe’s being separate from the company.
Aldi’s model would flop in. LA.
Here is something most people don’t know. Aldi’s owns Trader Joe’s. My favorite grocery story, even though is shoppers are mostly hipster liberal zombies.
.
Trader Joe pushes garbage like Canola oil and farmed excrement eating fish.
Total reject.
Aldi Sud - From the Catholic areas of Germany - South Germany and the Rhineland. Huge player in England and a major player in chunks of Europe.
Competitor Aldi Nord has the largely Protestant areas of Germany and is better known in the US as Trader Joes.
The article refers to new stores and remodeling of older stores.
They actually have some very nice things; but you have to shop there for awhile to learn what they are.
They also carry certain things that we can’t get anywhere else in our area.
(Our nearest one also opened right across the street from Costco.)
Close, but not quite.
Aldi Sud is Aldi in the US; Aldi Nord in Trader Joe's; brothers split up the grocery business that was started by their father, but the companies are separate.
