North Korea said the "military confrontation" between Pyongyang and Washington must come to an end, in order for trust to develop between the two countries.
Workers' Party Newspaper Rodong Sinmun said Thursday the solution is a "declaration of the end of war," a reference to the 1950-53 conflict that ended in a truce and a divided peninsula.
"As the military confrontation ends through the declaration of the end of war, an atmosphere conducive to trust building will emerge," the Rodong article stated.
The Rodong stated the declaration of the war's end is a priority and a "necessity for the times."
"It is the first step for peace and security on the Korean Peninsula and the region," the newspaper said.
The Rodong also stated Pyongyang agreed to a declaration to the end of war and to turn the armistice agreement into a peace treaty, but that "both sides need to move together" to make peace a reality.
The United States has yet to agree to a peace treaty ending the war. Last week, new U.S. Ambassador to Seoul Harry Harris said there must be "demonstrable moves" from North Korea toward denuclearization before ending the war.
Vox reported Wednesday the Trump administration is waiting for North Korea to start the process of denuclearization.
A formal timeline requesting Pyongyang to hand over 60-70 percent of its nuclear warheads within six to eight months has been rejected several times, according to the report.
Korea Ping
OK, North Korea, end the nukes
Exactly.
In fact hand them over, along with your processing facilities. We’ll move all of that to Dugway and hold it for you. Indefinitely.
Good, it should be officially ended.
This is huge folks. It’s the Holy Grail of foreign policy accomplishments.
As I remember, Rocket Man unilaterally abrogated the Armistice agreement a couple of times and declared that N. Korea was again in a state of war with the U.S.
You'll probably lose 30% of your young female population scampering to marry ANYONE to get out.
And the lucky man will be one happy dude.
Yeh....We’ll get right on that Kim.
Don’t you remember how many times when Democrats held the White House this was even on the table? Yeah, I can’t think of a time either. About time that Obama stop occupying Trump’s Nobel Peace Prize.
The return of all remains of US and their allies is priority number one. Also, return the USS Pueblo. Lets settle one war/conflict at a time. Then work out the nuclear/delivery system issues.
I cannot say just how happy I am to have a President determined to remember, respect and appreciate our courageous young heroes who travelled half the world to fight for freedom.
God bless you Mr President, for the sincere and respectful approach you have taken in this difficult issue.
Let those young men sleep in Christs arms assured in the knowledge no future generation of their countrymen will ever need to undertake such a trial
“Dont you remember how many times when Democrats held the White House this was even on the table?”
Personally, I can’t remember when it was “on the table” for ANY of our Presidents since 1953! President Trump is showing the country every day what ALL OF OUR PAST PRESIDENTS should have been doing. But it’s hard work, and not “politically popular,” so they all played golf or screwed interns instead.
Who started it....hmmmm?
Wasn’t the Korean War a UN action of which the US was only a player? *big player.
We want to definitely do this as part of the negotiations but it can’t happen yet. It’s putting the cart before the horse. If we did this, then the next calls would be for us to remove our troops from South Korea. IMO, when we have certified that their nuclear program no longer exists, then and only then do we work on a peace treaty to end the war.
Once they clearly give up and destroy or turn over their nuclear, chemical, and biological weapons, sure. Sooner the better.
Dude, we dont WANT your country!
Just stop trying to take over the south, and those people will spend billions on you!
The damn war games are a joke with one US Infantry Division. The clowns I saw in 73-74 were screw off leg infantry NCO’s who damn sure could not be a platoon anything with INDIG troops in combat. The 1LT’s had no CIB. The field grades were ticket punchers with mostly MACV combat patches or leg infantry units. These war games are a joke. The South Koreans could kick our fanny back then and probably now. I say that as our military rides up and down MSR’s/roads. We have this mechanized mind set. I could tell about the lousy protection that APC’s have, but; one can recall the Russian trucks, all APC’s, plus tanks littering the roads of Afghanistan. Add the drug addiction of the Russian troops. I believe we have that also.
Wasn’t North Korea at war with the UN?
