California Legislature Passes Bill Letting People Kill Their Family Members in Assisted Suicides

Yesterday afternoon, the California Senate passed SB 282 which legalizes aiding, advising, or encouraging assisted suicide. The bill was rushed through on the first day the legislature returned from its summer recess, giving no opportunity for debate or even opposing remarks.

The bill was introduced in the wake of Life Legal’s challenge to California’s assisted suicide law.

We registered our opposition to the bill early on, as it grants complete legal immunity to anyone who wants to facilitate the death of someone who is defined as “terminally ill” under California’s assisted suicide law. The law defines “terminal” as a condition expected to lead to death within six months if left untreated.

This means diabetes, high blood pressure, treatable conditions—even an infection—could be considered “terminal.”

Medical studies show that the vast majority of people—up to 77%—diagnosed with a terminal illness suffer from major depression. A study published in the Journal of Clinical Psychology found a “statistically significant association between clinical depression and the desire for hastened death.” In other words, people who are depressed often have suicidal thoughts.

California’s assisted suicide law allows “interested” witnesses, which include beneficiaries, to sign a person’s request for assisted suicide drugs. The new law—assisted suicide on steroids—allows an individual to aid, advise, and encourage a person to commit suicide—AND sign off on the method of suicide—while financially benefitting from the person’s death. And it’s all legal now.

Under existing law, “Any person who deliberately aids, advises, or encourages another to commit suicide is guilty of a felony.” Yesterday, the California legislature carved out an exception to this long-standing law that will give unscrupulous family members and others unqualified immunity to actively participate in the killing of another human being.

“California Legislature Passes Bill Letting People Kill Their Family Members in Assisted Suicides”

Yup, that is the headline. When you go, take everyone that did you wrong with you! Grannies all over CA are now wearing a evil grin.

Definitely the socialists' quick and easy cost cutting method for medicaid.

The question exists, however...

Is it really more humane or more...

...or is it ultimately more, um, Pol Pot?

The “Death Panels” are here. We now determine who enters and exits society and by what means. There are many who knew Roe v Wade would open this door.

CA needs to be cast into the ocean. It is the home of everything that is evil and bad. By “allowing” people to murder family members, they are deliberately destroying the normal bonds that exist between family members, and that is their intention.

Destroying the family, as fast as they can.

Also, one more little tidbit: He is one of the lawyers for President Donald Trump.

This sounds about right... for California.

Check your California hate long enough to check your facts

Oregon became the first state to legalize assisted suicide for terminally ill, mentally competent adults in 1994, followed by Washington and Vermont. The Montana Supreme Court has ruled that physicians may prescribe lethal drugs to the competent terminally ill.

Euthanasia is illegal in most of the United States. Assisted suicide/assisted death is legal in the states of Washington DC, Pennsylvania, California, Colorado, Oregon, Vermont, Hawaii, and Washington; its status is disputed in Montana.

Now I suppose you'll pull out the old lame line about Oregon having been ruined by Californians................lame.

We have watched and in some cases entered the fight for Terri Schiavo’s life, to attempt to keep her husband from starving and dehydrating her to death; and watched Charlie Gard’s forced entrance to the “Liverpool Pathway” recently.

Charlie took much less time to die, being a child.

How many persons here on this site live in California, and have heart disease, or high blood pressure, or diabetes, or any other managed chronic condition?

If the above statement applies to you, it is time to seriously consider eternity, because you may be marked to enter it sooner than you had planned.

Yes. Indeed.

This was pointed out specifically in the article, as well.

All in California with chronic illnesses should be very wary, as I believe that they will immediately or eventually become “targets of opportunity”.

In addition, at what point will government bureaucrats administering Medicare decide that the cost of care provided and the value of the estate of the potentially euthanized patient are now equivalent, and decide to be first in line for the patient’s estate?
