Good news for the GOP

Are Hispanics shifting their allegiances to President Trump?

A recent Harvard/Harris poll recorded a 10-point spike in Hispanic support for Mr. Trump....

Republican Gov. Rick Scott is besting his Democratic opponent among Hispanics, according to a Mason-Dixon poll.

Unemployment among Hispanics has fallen to its lowest level in decades, and there’s little doubt that Mr. Trump’s pro-business policies are the reason.

There’s even more cause for optimism looking ahead. Mr. Trump’s $1 billion infrastructure plan will benefit the country as a whole, of course, but there’s a silver lining for Hispanics, who constitute nearly 30 percent of the U.S. construction workforce, ...In fact, more than half the Hispanic job growth in recent years has occurred in construction, which is poised to expand even further as workers rebuild the nation’s long-neglected airports, bridges and roads.

--------------------------------------------------------

Most Central American and Caribbean Hispanics tilt Democratic. However, relatively large percentages of Mexican-Americans in Arizona, New Mexico, Texas and even southern California have often voted for Republican candidates.

...Like most Republicans, they are pro-military and pro-law and order. They are also more conservative on social issues — especially abortion — than the average voter. At the same time, many support generous government support for welfare, education and health care.....That leaves a “swing” constituency of about 30-35 percent. -------------------------------------------------------- Hispanics do support leniency toward undocumented immigrants that have lived and worked in the United States for long periods, paying their taxes, raising families and staying out of trouble. But they also support tough enforcement measures at the border and in the U.S. interior, including crackdowns on lawless “sanctuary” cities.

....But in a number of close House races in California, polling suggests that Hispanics disaffected from the Democrats are likely to sit out this November’s election, which could help the GOP retain control of Congress.

Discussed earlier. Fat chance but then I could see him ‘shaving off’ some hispanic support. Even more than a few blacks that now have jobs. LBGQ? He doesn’t care if one takes it up the a$$ but them they’ll hate him anyway.

I think he meant $1 trillion dollar infrastructure plan. One billion dollars is the cost of a large building these days.

What race does not appreciate higher paying jobs. Less illegals
competing for jobs in a robust economy?
Black, white, Hispanic or Asian.

"Hispanics, who constitute nearly 30 percent of the U.S. construction workforce"

This has been a disaster for blacks. Historically the construction industry was a way out of poverty for blacks, and many a black family owed their middle class lifestyle to the bread winner's ability to move up the ladder in construction. Without a breadwinner, there is no family.

In residential construction someone might start off as a laborer, and maybe move up to a carpenter's or bricklayer's helper and finally become a tradesmen himself.

Even in heavy construction which is highly unionized, a black in the laborer's union would have a good wage and health benefits, and were often able to parlay his skills into an apprenticeship with one of the skilled trades.

During the last 30 or 40 years, Hispanics in the construction industry have hurt the black family way more than any Ku Kluxer could ever have hoped to do.

“Hispanics in the construction industry have hurt the black family way more than any Ku Kluxer”

Point taken...also the black community and the DNC have destroyed the blacks ... back in the day in Boston, blacks did pretty well in the trades; then the Dems pushed more welfare and food stamps, and every future generation stopped working. President Trump way very well force some change, but the black community better get with it and quick.

I worked in the trades with many black people in the day and they were hard workers and good people. I really wish we could turn the ship around for them, get them trained and working, but it’s going to take a massive effort to get there before more immigrants take those jobs.
