An Oregon high school student who was suspended over a shirt that touted President Trumps proposed border wall has agreed to settle his lawsuit after the school agreed to pay $25,000 for his legal fees and have its principal write him an apology.
Addison Barnes, who graduated this year from Liberty High School in Hillsboro, Ore., outside Portland, filed a lawsuit in federal court in May alleging that the school violated his First Amendment rights when it punished him for wearing the shirt to a politics class discussion about immigration. The shirt said Donald J. Trump Border Wall Construction Co., and The Wall Just Got 10 Feet Taller.

Per leftist requirements, the principal will now get even angrier.
The school got off way too easy.
Your tax dollars at work, if you live in the school district or the surrounding county.
School officials had defended their actions in court, saying the shirt would contribute to a "hostile learning environment" and would make students feel insecure in school, noting that about 33 percent of the high school's students are of Hispanic descent. They also said the school had been the site of recent student walkouts and sit-ins to protest Trump's immigration policies [None of which these Oregon leftist kakistocrats stopped].
But U.S. District Judge Michael W. Mosman found the school district couldn't justify its censorship. The judge said he balanced constitutionally protected speech with the orderly running of a school.
Liberty High School——where your first amendment rights are suspended if the principal does not agree with you.
Schools are prisons. Children have no rights. They must attend. They must jump at the sound of a bell and march off to a different room seven or eight times a day. They must be quiet. (So much for free speech.) I think they can even be made to wear a uniform, definitely without political slogans.
This is a bad decision. Can you imagine your son or daughter being forced to look at tee shirts with images of Obama or Hillary, in addition to keeping his/her mouth shut all day?
ML/NJ
I agree that a uniform is a preferable idea, but if one does not opt for the uniform route, it is wrong to have some pigs more equal than others.
I have no doubt that there are images of Obama and Hillary around—it is merely a question of whether or not alternate images have equal rights. If those images are given equal rights, it may drive things towards uniforms.
Now it's Politicians and political issues?
My, how things have changed .... / sigh

I remember this like it was yesterday: A friend of mine, a guy, wore a t shirt to school that said “The word of the day is ‘legs.’ Help spread the word.” I was standing beside 2 male coaches when this guy walked by, they read the shirt and laughed. Still cracks me up. I’m 56 so this was a while back.....
What's good for the goose is good for the gander, ML/NJ. Are you concerned about our children being 'triggered'?
Reimbursement for legal fees hardly a win without compensatory damages.
I had a sweatshirt that I wore to school constantly ...
Regarding speech rights and potential offence, the very common way to prevent a problem is to have a school dress code banning any screen printed T shirts.
No graphics, no messages, no problem
The school actively supports one side of the political discussion and suppresses the voices for freedom. Leftists are evil totalitarians.
Is that anything like a junkie drag queen brought in to read stories to kindergarten students?
Schools of every type in the UK have worn uniforms for years.
Retailers have responded to demand by offering durable, low-cost clothing that doesn’t necessarily need laundering after every wear.
As a result, there is almost no focus on clothing, status, etc.
There was a nascent uniform movement in some districts in the US but I imagine it was squelched under the indulgent Obama and leftist administrators.
Hindsight is 20/20 of course but this fluff piece is hilarious in the wake of this news:

“One of my main focuses, no matter where I’ve been, is creating that positive, collaborative culture”
He failed miserably to meet his own standard.
If a dress code is in place that restricts all such type of clothing depicting slogans, pictures, etc it could pass muster as long as the code is uniformly enforced.
