I don't understand.

Schools are prisons. Children have no rights. They must attend. They must jump at the sound of a bell and march off to a different room seven or eight times a day. They must be quiet. (So much for free speech.) I think they can even be made to wear a uniform, definitely without political slogans.

This is a bad decision. Can you imagine your son or daughter being forced to look at tee shirts with images of Obama or Hillary, in addition to keeping his/her mouth shut all day?

I agree that a uniform is a preferable idea, but if one does not opt for the uniform route, it is wrong to have some pigs more equal than others.

I have no doubt that there are images of Obama and Hillary around—it is merely a question of whether or not alternate images have equal rights. If those images are given equal rights, it may drive things towards uniforms.

What's good for the goose is good for the gander, ML/NJ. Are you concerned about our children being 'triggered'?

Regarding speech rights and potential offence, the very common way to prevent a problem is to have a school dress code banning any screen printed T shirts.

No graphics, no messages, no problem

If a dress code is in place that restricts all such type of clothing depicting slogans, pictures, etc it could pass muster as long as the code is uniformly enforced.

This is a fair decision. Che Guevara T's are accepted by administrators. Hillary and Obama images are accepted. But a Trump t-shirt would likely cause an issue, just like this wall t-shirt did.

Absent a dress code banning ALL printed T's, this decision is as close to correct as can be. Either everyone has the same rights, or only the select few have elevated privilege. I am firmly on the side of rights.

I disagree. LIBERALS are in charge at the majority of public schools. I think it can be well established that the kids that are ordered to take their t-shirts off are the ones with conservative messages.

Now, it might make sense to ban ALL T shirts with any kind of statement. But, LIBERALS would F that up too.....somehow! Just give em a little time.

I’d tell my kids to get over it and look for ways to convert the heathen.

When I was in school the boys could wear t shirts but they couldn’t have any sayings or pics on them. Plain t shirts only. If they allow sayings and pics then they have to allow any shirt that’s not pornographic, etc. Yes, that includes Trump or Obama shirts. They can’t stop one and allow the other. It’s pretty simple. Just stop allowing the sayings and pics.

Happens every day, Bud - and without a peep from school administrators. Whether it be a Che Guevara shirt, a gay pride shirt or pictures of Obama and/or Hillary in the principal’s office (all of which have happened and continue to), as a rule, only leftist students’ rights are protected in most of our failing public schools. Thank God all of my kids are now out of high school!
