And it turns out in 2016, the federal government decided it a worthy cause to fund a study to see if taking selfies increases happiness. It involved creating two smartphone apps for participants to take photos and record their moods...documenting responses and mapping conclusions: the total cost was about $500,000. We spent close to a half a million dollars on this study and I think they ought to give it back, said Sen. Rand Paul (R-KY) in an interview last week, calling it an excessive and unnecessary use of our tax dollars... But supporters say it's also a minuscule amount when you consider what Congress spends, even on a daily basis.

Congress wastes millions every day. It's disgusting. Congress should pay us back out of their own pockets.
Im very happy and have never, nor will I ever take a selfie. I also refuse to use emojis.
Irony is wasting money on useless studies makes US the working American taxpayers unhappy.
Who cares what the prissy Millenials do?
Well, taking selfies made Obama happy.....because nobody wanted to look at him.
What members of Congress voted to waste this money?
Believe it or not I’ve never taken a selfie. Never. I can count the number of times I’ve “texted” on two hands.
I have never taken a selfie and never sent a text. Life is good and still goes on.
I cannot undertake to lay my finger on that article of the Constitution which granted a right to Congress of expending, on objects of benevolence, the money of their constituents
James Madison
“$500,000...for a study to see if taking selfies increases happiness.”
Did I read that right?
BS!
I think it was a worthy cause. It means that Congress has busy constructing its own gallows at taxpayer expense, so the taxpayers are going to get their money's worth. This will increase the taxpayers' happiness.
If Congress knew what it were doing, it wouldn't do that.
Politics is a career for those who are attracted to a life of crime.
It only makes us happier if we don’t accidentally step off a cliff or fall into the sea...
Your tax dollars at work!
Yeah, it’s so minuscule I am sure it’s no problem if we put it on your tax bill next year instead of ours.
Same here. I don’t take selfies, don’t text, don’t do FB and use the actual phone to speak to people.
I have noticed as have others that those that take selfies have messy rooms.
