PORTLAND, Maine (AP) — A week ago, Maine Democrat Zak Ringelstein wasn’t quite ready to consider himself a member of the Democratic Socialists of America, even if he appreciated the organization’s values and endorsement in his bid to become a U.S. senator.
Three days later, he told The Associated Press it was time to join up. He’s now the only major-party Senate candidate in the nation to be a dues-paying democratic socialist.
Ringelstein’s leap is the latest evidence of a nationwide surge in the strength and popularity of an organization that, until recently, operated on the fringes of the liberal movement’s farthest left flank. As Donald Trump’s presidency stretches into its second year, democratic socialism has become a significant force in Democratic politics. Its rise comes as Democrats debate whether moving too far left will turn off voters.

I just saw this article on the Portland Press Hearld website before I opened FR just now.
Zak is a real character. Running for the US Senate in Maine as a socialist. He lives in one of Portland’s upscale suburban towns.
Just looked up his address and it is a couple of houses down from where I grew up. It’s not waterfront, but still a nice neighborhood.
The Yarmouth Clam Festival is this weekend and he is in the County working the Potato Blossom festival. He not going to get many votes up there.
(My introduction to Republican politics was about 50 years ago helping to sell lemonade as a 8 year old at the Yarmouth Republican booth. Back when the Clam Festival aloud political orgs to participate.)

Wichita teen Jack Bergeson’s decision to jump into a hotly contested gubernatorial primary has apparently inspired another high school student near Kansas City.
Tyler Ruzich, of Prairie Village, filed to begin his campaign for Kansas governor on Sunday.
Bergeson is running for the Democratic nomination...
He told the Hutchinson News he was inspired by Bergeson, who started his campaign last month.
The Kansas City Star reports that the two are friends...
On guns, Bergeson said he is more “right-wing” and supports open carry and campus carry...
Nope. NY-14 is hers for as long as she wants it.
See, this is the part where the Democrats' plan to import millions of new Latino voters runs into a snag. Eventually these new Latino voters are going to want their own representing them in Washington.
