FRENCH riot police were called in to combat violence in France as riots erupted on streets and left two fans dead hours after their football team won the World Cup in Russia.

Celebrations turned to chaos in France with riots and looting as millions of French fans had been celebrating their team’s 4-2 victory over Croatia in the World Cup final.

More than 500 people were arrested during the evening after the win and around 100,000 police officers were out on the streets as well as 44,000 firefighters.

In the southeast city of Annecy, police reported a 50-year-old man died after breaking his neck when he jumped into a shallow canal in celebration of the French victory.

And in the small town of Saint-Felix in northern France, a man in his thirties died after crashing his car into a tree while celebrating after the match ended.

Around 845 cars were vandalised during the evening's violence.

Journalists were attacked in the northern French city of Rouen after they refused to delete a video of a violent attack and had to be treated by medical professionals.

The Croatians should have won. This is what years of sucking at the government teat has done to the French people.

The only thing I find more excruciatingly boring than soccer is basketball. I would rather watch the grass growing and paint drying channel

... and racing. If you want to catch a nice nap you lay down on the sofa and listen to the sounds of cars going round and round. :-)

“Riots? Over what? The French now riot when they win?”

You haven’t noticed the same thing happens here?

“...Wanna stop the riots...”

I noticed that Putin had no problems from the russky hooligans.

They’re probably still hitchhiking back from the Gulags.

I had the same feeling I thought I was watching an African team play.

Or an American team. European teams are starting to have the same racial makeup as American teams.

And with that European will have the same racial problems that the US is having. They don’t realize what a permanent world of hurt they bought themselves by inviting the invaders.

well I sure do; I’m on the edge of my seat watching batters adjust their gloves after every pitch...to say nothing of the goosebumps I get over multiple pickoff attempts...and don’t forget the adrenalin surges when numerous foul balls occur with two strikes...

“Most of these people aren’t French.”

Most of the team wasn’t French, either.

How pathetic are you when you have to loot and burn like an idiot when a ball team wins?

Aren’t they teaching sportsmanship ANYWHERE these days?????

Winning happily but magnanimously is important. So is losing with grace and dignity.

For chrissakes people....

The intricacies of baseball are lost to the uninitiated and impatient.

Listen to analysis by Steve Stone (I will admit he is extremely intelligent) for a fascinating analysis of what is occurring on the diamond.
