Does a nation have a right to defend its culture? Or does opposition to massive immigration of people from different cultures with a history of non-assimilation amount to racism?

The latter was clearly the view of two of Joy Reid’s guests on her MSNBC show this morning. Reacting to President Trump’s criticism of massive European immigration, expressed during an interview with the UK’s The Sun newspaper, guest Bobby Ghosh said:

“[Trump] is saying Europe has allowed too many immigrants; it’s spoiling European culture. That is classic racist speak."

Gee, I'm a mestizo American of Mexican descent and I (and others like me) am adamantly opposed to open borders. How can I be a racist against myself? Maybe, just maybe, I might have other compelling reasons-- like supporting the rule of law, national security, and a legal fair and equal process where we allow a sane number of immigrants who don't sneak across the border and who wait their turn like everyone else? I freakin love it, I am praying they are stupid enough to keep this up all the way to the midterms and beyond. As Ann Coulter has pointed out countless times, one of the main reason if not THE main reason Trump won the election is because of his strong stance on a secure border. It's a subject that has not only succeeded in getting him elected but other politicians as well. People - are-sick-to-death of this wide open border crap. They are sick to death of seeing entire neighborhoods over run by illegals, they are sick to death of all the money it is costing, they are sick to death of all the crime, they are sick to death of all the drugs and gang violence.

No it's not. It's a statement of fact. Immigration is something that has to be managed, for every sovereign nation. If the national culture is constantly shifting because of rapid immigration-mediated demographic shifts, what is the identity of that nation? What do its citizens hold onto as a national identity? What happens to national security? It's absolutely ludicrous to think that open borders and national sovereignty are compatible. They are not.
