Democrats are Done Pretending to be Moderate
National Review ^ | 66/28/2018 | Kyle Smith

The Democratic love of socialism was for many years the love that dared not speak its name. No more. Now the party is figuratively jumping on Oprah’s couch shouting its love of socialism. You’d have to plug your ears not to hear it. Socialist Bernie Sanders is unquestionably the spiritual leader of the Democratic party, which is radicalizing itself in his image, and on the strength of her blowout Democratic-primary win over liberal incumbent Joe Crowley in the party-ruled NY-14 congressional district, soon-to-be-congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez is now one of the most prominent faces in the Democratic party.

I thought the discussion of Bulworth (Warren Beatty) was interesting. A movie (I have not seen) in which Beatty's character, thinking he is going to die, articulates and espouses unpopular positions like socialism, single-payer, etc. The author compares Bulworth to today's far-left democrats.

Good — then we can oust even more of them.

She received 15,000-something votes in a Democrat-only closed primary in one of the bluest districts (D+29) of one of the bluest states in the country. Calm the hell down. You'd think Bernie Sanders just won the White House in a landslide.

Why is this surprising? Republicans were done pretending to be moderate years ago, evidence to the contrary notwithstanding. Why should the Democrats be any different?

I didn’t get the full story but think there were only 27,000 votes cast in a disrtict with hundreds of thousands of voters.

She was elected by a miniscule fraction of th electorate.

Is that a correct statement?

They want the gov't to provide for them so they can spend all their time on their smart phones.

Why is moderate not obeying law and order? Hedonism is about as moderate as trying to be half pregnant.

Face it the only reason the Democrats came up with the “right of center” argument was to excuse half of their corruption.

Bush 1 and 2, as well as GOP-E leadership in the Congress since 2002, are the epitome of "Me To" Democrat Lite Country club Republicans Either you are under 30 and never saw a real Republican President before or you live in alternative universe because that the dumbest statement about the current GOP ever posted here.

Actually, you know that and I know that.

The point is (read the whole article) the far-lefties are looking at that primary and Bernie’s success and running with the ball toward an all-socialist utopia. They are now convinced of the merits and blessings of socialism while the vast majority of Americans are not. The “blue wave” is looking more and more crimson.

Of course. But the Democrats are trying to put lipstick on a pig, making a silk purse from a sow's ear. Rank and file Democrat voters are probably a little disenfranchised with their party right now, and probably sat on their hands during the primary. The far-Left fringe is very motivated however, and voted for one of theirs.

I’ve never seen these movies referenced, but I do read history. Interesting article.

What Republican ran as a moderate in 2016? What Republican is running as a moderate now?

Yes, it had extremely low turnout, and Crowley was very complacent.

I have no doubt if New York had California's blanket primary system, which would result in the two squaring off in November, Crowley would crush her. Too bad for him.

According to past elections, there was also a very low turnout.

The problem is your knee jerk need to manufacture a false morale equivalence on every thread causes you to frequently make these sort of idiotic comments.

Try thinking first rather just going for the knee jerk Contrarian post once in a while. Knee jerk Contrarianism is not a sign of intellectual superiority

Socialized medicine, i.e., Medicare for all, is the hottest issue on the Left.

And the agenda media parrot the line as if it's a good thing. Rationing and death panels do not sound very appealing, but that's socialism for you. Spreading misery fairly.
