There's nearly a Nixon '74 level of public support for impeaching Trump
CNN ^ | June 22, 2018 | Byron Wolfe

(CNN)There is a truly remarkable number in the most recent CNN poll, conducted by SSRS and out this morning.

In it, 42% of Americans say President Donald Trump should be impeached and removed from office. What makes it remarkable is that he's on par with President Richard Nixon, who 43% of Americans said should be impeached and removed from office in a March 1974 Harris poll. That was after the scale of Watergate came to light, but months before the House started to move against Nixon, who would go on to resign in August 1974 rather than be impeached.

Impeachment requires "treason, bribery or other high crimes and misdemeanors," according to the Constitution, which also lists it as the the only thing for which a President can't issue a pardon. Trump has bragged that he certainly has the power to pardon himself but won't need to use it. Nixon got a pardon from Gerald Ford, the man to whom he gave the keys to the White House.

The 43% supporting Nixon's impeachment in that Harris poll, by the way, is much higher than the 29% who supported impeachment for President Bill Clinton in 1998. Or, for that matter, the similar number who wanted Presidents Barack Obama and George W. Bush impeached. As CNN's Grace Sparks writes, there's basically "a baseline of pro-impeachment sentiment for a modern president" and Trump far eclipses it. So why aren't top Democrats clamoring to impeach Trump? To be sure, there are efforts on the outskirts of the party and in Congress, but they do not have the backing of party big wigs.

Most Democrats in Congress, for the record, have opposed efforts by Rep. Al Green, a Texas Democrat, to bring the issue to the floor of the House.

Were any non-socialists included in the survey?

Or was it just there in the newsroom?

They probably took this poll at a DNC cocktail party after more than a few rounds of drinks were downed.

I am thinking FAKE NEWS.

Payback for “CNN Sucks!” chant at Trump rally.

From the poll:

77% of Democrats believe Trump should be impeached.
Only 38% of Independents believe Trump should be impeached.
Only 9% of Republicans believe Trump should be impeached.

This poll simply shows that democrats want Trump impeached -— nobody else. So what??? nothing new — they have been saying that since Nov 8, 2016

I can’t find the methodology anywhere. If they’re going to just make up statistics why stop there? Tell the leftist morons it’s 145%, they don’t understand math anyway.

Have you noticed that almost daily CNN has come out with these fake polls. This is true BS. There no doubt 20-25% in favor but not a majority.

I recall that at one point, everyone in his party wanted him out.

Was totally stupid. He totally misread and understood the power of the media. He was really a very strong president in many things. Then he passes it on to Ford who gave us Carter and the we hit bottom...

I consider CNN, MSNBC, ABC, etc. to be among the domestic enemies mentioned in that oath I took. I would bet that a lot of people do. I think that if they ever do succeed in starting the civil war they seem to be trying very hard to start that it probably won’t go as well for them as they imagine.

The MSM is worse than the old Soviet Union. At least people didn’t believe the “news,” they knew it was propaganda.

What is it with these Wolfe characters? Nixon was NOT impeached, he is not the standard by which to poll. BjClinton was impeached, but the lords and ladies of the Senate refused to find him guilty. Nixon was a ‘saint’ compared to ol bjClintons.

What they fail to mention is support for President Trump is rising while support for impeachment is falling.

The poll in 1974 was while all the media was pushing for impeachment.

Todays polls are while the population believes the dominant Progressive media is fake news, and more and more Conservative media is gaining audience.

Not enough to get the President impeached.

This is a partisan stunt and it will go nowhere.

Pure BS. Nixon’s approval rating at the end of his presidency was 24%. Trumps is consistently twice that number, yet we’re supposed to believe a majority of Americans want him impeached.

Impeachment due to Emollients violation is what the left have harped on for nearly two years.
DJT has not divested business interests in a manner that would be sufficiently arms-length hands off management to ensure no conflict of interest with decision making while in office.
His sons run the businesses instead of a genuinely blind trust unaffiliated with family.

I recently heard that in 1972 McGovern called Nixon a Nazi or Hitler over 40 times.

So it is a well worn path. And it follows that while the failed in the elections to defeat Nixon or Trump, that didn’t stop them from continuing to try.

"Nowhere in the article does it reference what he would be impeached for."

Exactly. And these are the same people who are saying that TRUMP threatens democracy! What could be a greater threat to "democracy" than removing a president just because you don't like his personal style, or because you think you know better than the people who voted for him?
