Well then by all means ban it and put everyone who uses it in prison.

That will surely stop this behavior in human beings!

Hmmm, all those millions of people enjoying pain relief from non-opioids are costing big pharma billions by now.

Reads like prohibitionist BS to me. I know the dozens of people I’ve met as a legal patient here in Florida sure appreciate being off the opioids.

A public service announcement brought to you by:
1.) congress members who own large holdings in big pharma.
2.) big pharma.
3.) Wall Streeters who facilitate public sector pensions (read: they need the arrests/fines).

Medicinal marijuana was originally prescribed to cope with chemotherapy, wasn't it?

There may be other uses as well, but have doctors ever really recommended it as a painkiller?

I don’t believe it. Small study, minor differences.

Seems like a silly study, though it may help in general when substance users (incl alcohol) get injured.

It has no bearing on the benefits of cannabis used against pain.

So, give them a joint with the opioids.

Then after 5 days, eliminate the opioids. Register them in a database that precludes them getting opioids for a full year thereafter.

They, and society, would be FAR better off for it.

“On average, the marijuana users required 7.6mg of opioid painkillers a day in hospital, compared to 5.6mg for non-drug users.”

That’s a tiny dose of morphine. It’s a moderate dose of Dilaudid. I wonder if the difference between 7.6mg and 5.6mg is statistically significant.

“On a scale of zero-to-10, with 10 being the worst, people who had used cannabis rated their daily pain as 4.9, compared to 4.2 for non users.”

Yeah, there’s some *real* science. /s

Self-reporting of pain level on a scale of 1 to 10. How much more precise and reliable could they get? I wonder if there’s statistical significance there, either.

“This could cause marijuana users to stay in hospital longer because ‘we don’t want to discharge them on massive doses of narcotics’, said Dr Anne Wagner, from the UCHealth Burn Center, Colorado, who was not involved in the study.

7.6mg is “massive?” More hysteria.

“Users may also experience drug withdrawal, such as nausea and vomiting, which can delay healing.”

No fake-science crap report would be complete without at least one outright, obvious lie.

Need more weed!

And pizza...
And brownies...
With ice cream...
And Doritos...

In any given study, a number of people will exaggerate their pain to get more drugs. I don’t think marijuana is any different in this regard. It’s not physically addictive, but some people will abuse anything. The consequences appear to be less than current prescription and even non-prescription pain meds. I’ve never known anyone to overdose on pot, but I have known people who’ve died from taking too much Tylenol.

Other than high school the period of my life when I smoked the most pot was when I was a carpenter. My tolerance for pain was incredible in those days and there was a lot of it.

Have barely touched the stuff in the last 13 years and my pain tolerance nothing like it was back then.

Why don’t we let the person in pain decide what they want to take to relieve it? The government should have no say.
