An Uber driver in Denver shot a passenger multiple times early Friday before the vehicle they were traveling in crashed, snarling traffic on one of the citys major roadways, according to media reports.
Denver police said the driver and passenger apparently got involved in a dispute before the driver opened fire, striking the adult male multiple times while traveling on Interstate 25 near University Boulevard around 3 a.m.
The vehicle, identified by Fox 31 Denver as a silver sedan, veered off the road and hit a wall on a highway ramp.
The driver called 911 to report the shooting, The Denver Channel reported, citing emergency dispatch communications.
Sonny Jackson, a police spokesman, said the victim was pronounced dead while the driver has been released after being evaluated at a local hospital. The driver has not been charged with a crime.
Neither the victim nor the driver have been publicly identified.
Uber, on its website, says guns are not allowed in its vehicles.
"Our goal is to ensure that everyone has a safe and reliable ride," it says. "That's why Uber prohibits riders and drivers from carrying firearms of any kind in a vehicle while using our app."

“Never kill a customer.”
Until after they have paid
Nice directive control, there.

Gee i wonder why-
That’s why Uber prohibits riders and drivers from carrying firearms of any kind in a vehicle while using our app.”
Really? Prevents them how?
Well because the “app” says so. As effective as any GUN FREE ZONE sign I’ve seen.
Hope Fox investigates this further.
What’s the shooters name? Mr. Driver?
...Uber prohibits riders and drivers from carrying firearms of any kind...
The facts in the article (including the car crashing) strongly point to a form of self defense. But we’ll see where the evidence leads them. It’s on them to prove it wasn’t self defense, and only one of ‘em is talking.
And if he has a good attorney, neither of them are talking.
"This is very preliminary, but it appears there was an Uber driver and his passenger got into a conflict inside his vehicle, shots were exchanged, shots were fired and the passenger it appears was shot," Denver Police spokesperson Sonny Jackson said.
They should put a sign on Uber cars: “Driver is unarmed”
Why?
...which only goes to show (and I'll make this a new adage) that prohibition seldom means absence.
Why?
I know the I-25/University Boulevard area quite well. I’ve been going to Denver at least twice a year since 1981.
“They should put a sign on Uber cars: Driver is unarmed
I’d prefer “Caution, Gun On Board”.
3:00 a.m. and they’re driving around picking up complete strangers and the driver is prohibited from carrying a gun to protect themselves? How do they get anyone to work for them?
This just proves once again, these companies coudn’t care less about the help’s safety. The only thing they’re concerned about is liability $$.
Your life is meaningless to these companies.
Nothing good happens after midnight, especially if alcohol is involved.
