Donald Trump's personal lawyer, Michael Cohen, received a secret payment of at least $400,000 (£300,000) to fix talks between the Ukrainian president and President Trump, according to sources in Kiev close to those involved.
The payment was arranged by intermediaries acting for Ukraine's leader, Petro Poroshenko, the sources said, though Mr Cohen was not registered as a representative of Ukraine as required by US law.
Mr Cohen denies the allegation.
The meeting at the White House was last June. Shortly after the Ukrainian president returned home, his country's anti-corruption agency stopped its investigation into Trump's former campaign manager, Paul Manafort.
A high-ranking Ukrainian intelligence officer in Mr Poroshenko's administration described what happened before the visit to the White House.
Mr Cohen was brought in, he said, because Ukraine's registered lobbyists and embassy in Washington DC could get Mr Poroshenko little more than a brief photo-op with Mr Trump. Mr Poroshenko needed something that could be portrayed as "talks".
This senior official's account is as follows - Mr Poroshenko decided to establish a back channel to Mr Trump. The task was given to a former aide, who asked a loyal Ukrainian MP for help.

“Ukraine is the new Russia.”

So does this indicate the the DNC is allied with Russia, that Hillary may have colluded against the Ukraine?
Did Obama look the other way when Russia took the Crimea from the Ukraine in 2014?
Mr Cohen denies the allegation.
A second source
There was also support for the account from a lawyer in the US who has uncovered details of Mr Cohen's finances, Michael Avenatti. He represents a porn actress

One source in Kiev said
Drawing on "senior, well placed" intelligence sources in Kiev
This has all the smell of disinformation, a deliberate fake article to discredit and weaken Trump and any budding US-Ukrainian relationship. I say the Russians are behind it.
Here is the statement that should lead the article and be given prominence: As well as Mr Cohen, the two Ukrainians said to have opened the backchannel for their president also denied the story.
Maybe Chalupa is in Kiev
What was Hillary’s right hand man Podesta getting paid, again?
if not, so what?
So this is a problem, and all the millions paid to the Clinton Foundation for access to Hillary isnt.
Its the way Ukrainians think - the embedded culture of getting around Russiin tyranny via bribes - it goes back centuries.
Its also a logical strategy when trading for ‘favors later, which usually don’t happen’.
Hillary (an actual employee of our country) was paid by foreigners to sell out our country. Why isn’t that a bigger issue ?
Cohen apparently decided to milk the fact that POTUS had been his client by selling “advice” to foreign entities - advice which he actually, it seems, did not have to give, but hey - isn’t a sucker born every minute, even overseas?
Now, if it turns out he didn’t follow the minutiae of US laws and regulations for having foreign business dealings, he may find himself in some legal trouble.
POTUS? I am almost 100% dead-certain he know nothing about any of this (otherwise he would have fired Cohen on the spot).
Cohen seems to be an opportunist whose biggest client brought him some unanticipated “windfall” profits ... followed by other, equally unanticipated, legal scrutiny ...
Obama met with Ukranian President in April 2016 and discussed getting 1B loan from US. But that is ok.
this has been BBC’s top headline on their World Service Radio for hours.
#13. Why would the President of Ukraine need a back channel to talk to the President of the United States”. SIMPLE. His only pay phone is out of order.
That's different. Hillary was supposed to win.
