The subpoena is preferred, he said, “because when you are subpoenaed, Congress then pays…for your legal counsel and the subpoena protects [the agent] from any organizational retaliation

I guess a patriot who stands up and speaks the truth without being paid or protected is just old fashion and outdated.

Being a patriot shouldn’t involve loss of ability to work and provide for yourself. Our elites have created an infrastructure where investing in a job costs $300,000+ and, if you lose the job you trained for you lose everything permanently.

I, for one, think our patriots DESERVE our protection. God knows that the anti-American Deep Staters have been long protected from justice.

Easy for you to say. How many people would be willing to suffer being wiped out financially causing great harm to your family in the name of patriotism? In the real world, not many. Look at General Flynn who had to sell his home to pay his legal bills and was forced to plead guilty to a manufactured crime.

You just can’t expect everyone to be that courageous. They would be risking everything - their jobs, their families, their homes, their social circles... maybe their lives. We’d want everyone to be a patriot but we’ve allowed a system that is corrupt and vindictive and virtually unaccountable. They would be Don Quixotes.

“I guess a patriot who stands up and speaks the truth without being paid or protected is just old fashion and outdated.”

It was better back when it was the rule, and not the exception, that government agencies generally wanted to do the right thing. That’s no longer the case. The government can, will, and has already, ruined people who’ve done the right thing.

Since there IS a way around it, i.e., subpoena, it’s smart to use that option.

After 8 years of Obama wars on whistleblowers, even the most hardcore patriot would consider whether martyrdom in this fashion would be an effective measure.

I agree with you.

Its unbelievable that the pushback your comment generated.

Looking at the replies to your post, there are quite a few here who think that a government job is the only thing out there, as if there are no other jobs in the world.

I was a whistle blower in a very lucrative job I had years ago. II wasn’t believed and I ended up having to leave the job and move away, and take a 50% pay cut.

I guess counting the cost is too much to expect for many these days.

The pension-loving, mortgage-loving federales.are just cowards.

It is when a corrupt FBI and DOJ can lawfare you into bankruptcy, force you to sell your home to pay legal fees, threaten your kids with the same treatment, leak slanted stories to the press, etc.

Let’s ask Mike Flynn how he feels about it. What do you say?

McCabe was notorious or destroying agents who attempted to be whistleblowers. The entire attempt to destroy Flynn and his family was brought about in part due to Flynn attesting to protect a female FBI agent who filed a sexual harrasement case (ref).

There is a deep cancer of corruption in the FBI. A culture of corruption which will destroy entire families to protect itself. So, yes, going up against such an agency like this requires extraordinary protection.

Your points are valid and I appreciate the discussion. Would add to it:

1) The preferred speaks loudly to me, but I could be wrong

2) There is always an agenda in a written article

I'm thinking that the "protects from professional retaliation" is the bigger issue for most. Look at what they're doing to Presidents. Imagine what they would do to cubicle staff.
