There’s a new wrinkle in the aftermath of the shooting at Santa Fe High School on Friday. The family of the shooter, the boy who killed 10 people, are speaking out. They’re claiming that their son, the one who shot his classmates and teachers, should be seen as a victim. They claim the boy was bullied and “mistreated” by his classmates.
Dimitrios Pagourtzis, 17, is being held on capital murder charges. Pagourtzis has admitted to killing 8 students and two teachers. The shotgun and .38 revolver he brought to campus both belonged to his father.
That man, Antonios Pagourtzis, is now making statements. He says his son was a ‘good boy’ and that he must have been bullied.
“My son, to me, is not a criminal, he’s a victim,” Antonios Pagourtzis, who immigrated to the U.S. from Greece, reportedly told Greece’s Antenna TV. “The kid didn’t own guns, I owned guns.”
“He pulled the trigger but he is not this person,” he said.
“It is like we see in the movies when someone gets into his body and does things that are not done. It’s not possible in one day for the child to have changed so much.”
Pagourtzis said his son never displayed any signs that he would be capable of such violence, explaining that he didn’t fight with others, didn’t drink alcohol and seemed to enjoy healthy pursuits such as working out.
Pagourtzis also spoke with the Wall Street Journal. He told them that his son was “mistreated at school” and “that’s what was behind” the carnage.
“He never got into a fight with anyone. I don’t know what happened,” he said.
“Somebody probably came and hurt him, and since he was a solid boy, I don’t know what could have happened. I can’t say what happened. All I can say is what I suspect as a father.”
“I hope God helps me and my family understand. We are all devastated. It would have been better if he shot me than all those kids.”
“I have guns. I am a hunter and had a farm which I rented in the 1980s,” he said. “The guns in my house are legal and declared.”
Antonios Pagourtzis and his wife were allowed to visit their son in prison for 15 minutes.
“I saw the child. I didn’t see a child who is a murderer. A pure child, a child who was ashamed to look me in the face,” Pagourtzis said.
“He was thinking of his sisters, how his sisters will be able to get about. He said he loves me, he told his mother he loves her and he will try to be strong to help us cope.”
It was during this visit that the younger Pagourtzis reportedly told his parents that he had spared “the kids who were the good kids so they can tell his story.”
Pagourtzis will have his story told. Much of what’s known about the incident will become public during the sentencing, if not before.

Well they have to say that in order for any leniency when he's convicted.They know he did it.. This is why they asked to be alone, so they could prepare what they would be feeding the news and begin his defense by what they say. I'm not buying it as this is the new excuse for kids who teens who murder fellow students, or people in general.
This is preparing for the kids defense....this is for the media to spread about their ‘dear’ son. They have no choice as they know he did the deed....and why they wouldn’t talk to reporters as they prepared the “agenda” of his defense which always begins with the media.
Oh barf.
That father doesn’t get that a 17 year old is not a “child”-and he is not accepting he deserves a failing grade in parenting-denial isn’t just a river in Egypt...

In Niven's universe, the technology to indefinitely sustain any human organ outside of the body was developed in the early 21st century, greatly simplifying organ transplants. This led to the creation of "organ banks" which, in theory, one could use to extend life indefinitely so long as a compatible organ had been donated at any point, as opposed to a complicated waiting list in combination with limited time to transport the organ to the recipient. In light of this, all forms of burial save complete harvesting of organs for transplant became illegal. This resulted in an increased quality of life, but quickly became its own problem; the banks required donors (i.e. dead people) to operate, but when the death rate is reduced (via the organ banks), the number of donors decreases. Thus, the supply of organs would continually reduce.
Compounding this problem, the high success rate of organ transplants tended to discourage research into other viable medical treatments. As a result, medical research was stagnated to a large extent, focusing primarily on improving transplants and little else. Repairing a failing organ (which could presumably fail again later) was considered secondary to the "complete" solution of replacing the failing organ.
An example in the Known Space universe was that anyone who wore eyeglasses was considered a reasonable candidate for an eye transplant (one or both); whereas in the real world, today's nearsighted population can solve the problem (temporarily) by wearing corrective lenses or (more permanently) by undergoing laser surgery.
On Earth, the problem led to a repressive society almost unrecognizable by today's standards. Since the average citizens wished to extend their lives, the world government sought to increase the supply by executing condemned criminals to supply the organ banks. When this failed to meet the demand, citizens would vote for the death penalty for more and more trivial crimes. First violent crimes, then theft, tax evasion, false advertising, and even traffic violations became punishable by the organ banks. This led to a disturbing discovery; in Niven's universe, many actions deemed "criminal" had a genetic propensity, and by harvesting these individuals for their organs, that propensity was eliminated from the gene pool. By the 22nd century, every crime on Earth merited the death penalty - but as a result of generations of summary execution, "Flatlander" psychology was irreversibly transformed into a society of near-total pacifism and submission to authority, which supplied no donors for the organ banks.

I recall a young man around 14 that came back from a mission stint with his parents.
His South African accent was heavy, and he was simply socially unprepared in any sense of the word to meld in with the other youth. It didn’t help that he was one step away from an albino, very very white skin and a toe head. Further, his physical condition left him wide open. He couldn’t do one single pushup.
We were living in a dormitory setting, and he was exposed.
Kids were both sorry for him and very annoyed at times. He didn’t have the good sense to keep his head down and get by.
He got unreasonably testy at times, and even though I’m sure there were times when it was reasoned of him, it didn’t go well for him.
My take away was that parents really need to think about the impact on their children, some of their life choices will have.
It was also evident to me that kids need to be more friendly to people outside their group. I will say that not everyone was hostile toward him. It was an unfortunate situation.
I’m glad that things turned out decent for you after the initial problem. I woudln’t wish that on anyone.

A lot of parents don’t realize the power of influence they have over their children. I am very opinionated on just about any and all subjects. Just ask my two grown children, who turned out very well.

All true. And also from the time we could walk, we were told “no”. We were told that we lost the ballgame. We were not chosen for the team, etc etc.
By the time some girl rejected us at age 17, we were more like “oh, disappointment again...hello old friend”. It didn’t send us off the rails of reality.
Also a third of the school wasn’t on ritalin and SSRIs
In Junior High I was bullied. I fought back with my fists. Sometimes I won sometimes I lost. One day I really lost it mentally. I did not use my fists. I grabbed the miserable prick by the neck. I started pounding his head on the floor. I had enough. I really wanted to hurt him. Fortunately some other students realized I might really hurt him. In the past they were quite content to watch a fist fight. They pulled me off of him before I could have done permanent damage.
This was in South Louisiana in the early sixties. I was from Texas. I was never messed with again. They said, "That Texan is bad when mad."
Bullying is just part of growing up. Girls bully also but rarely physical. They are really vicious when attacking each other with words. Guys will kick the Sierra out of each other and it is over. Sometimes they become friends as they have come to respect each other.

Yeah, that’s the point. Eric killed a cop, and injured another. I’m not defending that action.
But there is a lot more to this story. Eric is sequestered in prison. No one can see him. The circle that he ran with helped him hide, and a lot of people stuck their necks out to protect him. The entire area here was turned upside down in a very, very eastern-bloc sort of way where police both local and out of state (NJ and NY cops pulling people over deep, deep in PA) were harassing PA citizens during that time. A lot of questionable acts on behalf of the state police.
All of his story was flushed down the memory hole. No one can speak to him. While I never met him, I do know a few in his outer circle of friends.
During that time was interesting in PA. Troopers from both PA and NJ were found dead in the woods. A zoning meeting had a shooting from a citizen who was sick of the corruption. It was almost as if a team of people got together to “drain that swamp”.
The jeep found in the woods was strange too. It was found in an area where it shouldn’t have been able to get in if it couldn’t get out. In other words, it was a pole turtle. I didn’t see the jeep there but where it was reported to be was questionable. And his ID was found in it.
Very strange case indeed. But what really gets me is that most of the info from the case was erased. Even read the wiki article that you posted. There are a ton of questionable notes.

Dimitrios Pagourtzis is a ‘victim’ of his parents slothful parenting.
He was raised on Ritalin. That means that they bailed out on parenting, and allowed their son to be drugged into placid submission.
They should share in the penalty as accomplices.

I got beat up for two years in grade 8 and 9 because I refused an invite to smoke and drink with the cool kids. I got labelled and bullied. Grade 10 I was too big for them, and fought back and spent the next two years beating up bullies. Not once did I think I should shoot up the place.
