Rarely in my life have I read a more hostile or vicious takedown of a public figure than last week’s New York Times profile of Canadian author and psychologist Jordan Peterson. Rarely have I witnessed a more bizarre and bad-faith interview of a public figure than journalist Cathy Newman’s January interrogation of Peterson on Britain’s Channel 4 News. Few public figures inspire more vitriol and mockery on Twitter than, you guessed it, Jordan Peterson. And never before have I seen vitriol so out of proportion to the “threat” of the man’s underlying message.
I don’t claim to be an expert on everything the man’s said, but I read and reviewed his most recent book, 12 Rules for Life: An Antidote for Chaos, and I’ve watched many of his most popular YouTube videos — and the contrast between the actual content of his message and the rage and mockery it elicits never fails to surprise me. Have we really reached the point where the basic argument that men and women are different, or that free men and women will often make different choices in large part because they are different, or that religion and ancient traditions can inform and guide our lives today, are now so toxic that their advocates must and should face a relentless campaign to drive them from the public square?

When Peterson walks into a secular university or a secular television studio and addresses a secular audience by referencing ancient theological arguments, the effect is not unlike inviting a genderqueer women’s-studies professor to a Baptist Sunday-school class. Some things (in some places) are just not said.

I keep hearing about Jordan Peterson but I’ve never seen any of his work. Apparently he’s doing a good job of driving the left bananas.
Peterson is a University Professor, in the heart of the beast no less in secular Toronto.
I listen to his stuff. He is incredibly well-read in philosophy, religion and brings his scientific knowledge of medicine and psychology into play as well.
What set him off was his refusal to use gender-neutral pronouns, but otherwise, he will directly challenge all notions of the Left that human society can be engineered by so-called progressives and central planners.
Everyone seems to misshear what he says. Peterson did not refuse to use gender-neutral pronouns if he was asked to by someone. He refused to be compelled by the State to use them.
I was just watching a good You Tube video of Jordan Peterson and Camille Paglia last evening. I think part of the problem is that some none-too-intelligent men and dishonest journalists misinterpret Peterson for their own use.
And wacky feminazis, of course.
Yes, that's correct, but he's also said - no transgender individual has ever asked him to do so. The entire controversy is aimed directly at the power of the Left and the State. Its why he quotes Solzhenitsyn so much when this issue arises.
You really should watch some of his YouTube videos. He’s at the forefront of the war against cultural Marxism and he is devastating, fearless, passionate and deserves our support.
Just watch one and you’ll be hooked.
Watching Professor Peterson debate a left-winger reminds me of what it feels like to play chess against a good computer chess program.
Not only do you not make any progress, but the counterattack seems to come at you from every direction.
He quietly, thoughtfully and respectfully dismantles every lefty social construct and presupposition brick by brick.
His logic is flawless and his arguments are sound, even unassailable.
They can’t argue with him — they lose every time. So, they must destroy him.
It’s the lefty way.

Dr. Peterson is going on a 12 Rules for Life speaking tour. He will be in America, Canada, and the UK. I enjoy listening to him. And he holds his ground in such a gentlemanly fashion. No screaming and yelling....he just speaks.

You're right that it's a war against cultural Marxism but it's also so much more... Jordan Peterson's identifying why schools are being shot up, why the birth rate is the lowest it's been in our country - ever, why rapists in Hollywood 'raped' for 20 years with no objections... and why cultural signposts being washed away is the chaos... It's all connected.
My son and I are going to read it together.
I'm doing this partly --- I admit ---- because he drives the cultural Left stark, barking mad.
And for the most part, he does it without even raising his voice. I'd be flying across the table going for their throats.
In order to fully understand JP you need to read about the dominance hierarchy of lobsters who have inhabited the earth for 250 million years...even before trees existed...his theory is mankind and for that matter all living things feel the natural instinct to belong and achieve dominance within their group identity. When for example, society starts pretending that a male can turn female simply by cutting off his winkie, the notion is is preposterous.
