Agents Investigate if Images on Border Fence Are Graffiti or Artwork
BBC Low Angeles ^

U.S. Customs and Border Patrol is investigating multiple complaints from the public that there is graffiti on Federal property at the U.S.-Mexico Border.

The complaints are specifically about the south side of the primary border fence in the area commonly referred to as Friendship Circle.

Some of the images include an upside down American flag and faces painted onto the metal.

In a statement, U.S. Border Patrol, San Diego Sector said:

"As we began to investigate the complaint, it became obvious that skilled artists applied some of the 'graffiti' with the intent of creating murals to send a specific political message and/or to beautify the Border Wall."

The statement goes on to say that the Chief Patrol Agent for the San Diego Sector has reached out to the groups and artists that created the murals to engage them in conversation before making any final decisions. The goal is to determine whether to take down or preserve the images.

So now Border Patrol agents have to have a background in aesthetics too?

Maybe it is hate speech or some kind of religious symbolism. Might offend somebody if it is removed. Might offend somebody if it stays.

I think we need to encourage this Behavior by building an extensive hardened tall canvas all across the southern border.

At the maximum security prison in my state there are signs on the wall saying that if you [inmate] get closer to the wall than 50 feet you will be shot. There wasn’t any graffiti on that wall.

crazy - it’s on the south side- likely done by illegals or illegal sympathizers - that are defacing govt property, yet this border patrol agent who clearly isn’t focused on his job priorities wants to determine if its artwork?

people on the south side shouldn’t be touching the fence/wall let alone graffiting/muralling anything on it.

Graffiti is vandalism.

One of the big steps in reclaiming Central Park in the 1980’s was to remove all graffiti.

Immediate removal policy for graffiti now.

It is defacing public property. Sandblast it off immediately.

Title 36 - Parks, Forests, and Public Property
§ 2.31 Trespassing, tampering and vandalism.
(3) Vandalism. Destroying, injuring, defacing, or damaging property or real property.

And somebody should be charged the clean up/removal cost as well if caught doing so.

Put deportees to work painting over the graffiti as part of their removal from the country. Each illegal gets his own little area to cover. If they refuse, they can think about their choice while looking at the walls of their jail cell.

” Graffiti “artists” should be shot on sight.”

In Causeway Bay, Hong Kong several years ago a local caught a youth spraying graffiti in an alley late at night. The kid ended up zip-tied a rail. The citizens removed his shirt and used the kids paint to spray his entire upper body, including the hair on his head. I don’t believe the people that did this to the kid were ever caught. I did notice that the amount of new graffiti in the area decreased.

#3: "It’s vandalism."

Bingo. If someone is dark complected, his crude scrawls and spray paint vandalism is called "art". If a white person were to do the same thing he'd be arrested for vandalism and disorderly conduct.

Each time I pass a rail yard and see trains desecrated with ghetto "art" and Mexican scrawls, I'm reminded that differences are much deeper than skin color.

So unauthorized racist and anti-American graffiti/murals on walls and overpasses (which are nothing new) are OK if done by artists with some skill? There is a building in San Diego’s beautiful Balboa Park that has been covered by such “art” for years.
