Editorial: Media distortion hits new lows

Another week has gone by in which the media covering the president of the United States has committed reckless malpractice more disgraceful than usual.

Last Friday, President Trump hosted athletes from the 2018 Winter Olympics and Paralympics at the White House. For 20 minutes he celebrated their accomplishments, often calling them to the podium and joking with them. It was a ceremony of pure goodwill, and the president, as any good hotelier would, made sure each one had a memorable experience.

When he brought the gold medalists from the curling team up to the podium to great applause, one of them, Matt Hamilton, exclaimed, “It helped that your daughter was there cheering us on.” Ivanka had held his teammate’s child on her lap during the game, he explained.

During Thursday’s White House press briefing, press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders was accused by CNN political analyst April Ryan of being “blindsided” by something Rudy Giuliani had said. Sanders quipped, “Well, with all due respect, you actually don’t know much about me in terms of what I feel and what I don’t.”

Later, on CNN, Ryan read into Sanders’ words and insinuated, incredibly, that she was looking for a physical altercation: “For Sarah Huckabee Sanders, the presidential spokesperson, the mouthpiece for the president of the United States, to say, ‘You don’t know me,’ in certain quarters in this nation, that starts a physical fight.”

Insanity. Ryan must be hanging out in some pretty tough “quarters of the nation” because most viewers would never come to that conclusion.

When Americans rightfully find it too “tough to watch” the elite media, they find alternatives, and it’s happening.

The most amazing thing about this article is the source.

To the contrary, in most quarters, Sarah’s statement is seen as an attempt to diffuse a hostile comment.

Not really. The Herald liked Reagan, too.

I imagine that could start a fist fight in the hood. I expect that line of thinking from a hood rat like Ryan. The reporterette should just go to Waffle House or Chucky Cheese if she wants to get her ghetto beat-down on. Lay a finger on Sarah and answer to a basket full of deplorables.

Not exactly. The Washington Times is a Republican organ; The Boston Herald had no use at all for George W. Bush, for instance. It doesn’t like Republicans; it likes populists.

Also, the WT barely exists anymore; the Herald is doing much better.

For me it's ‘too tough to watch’ biased outlets that deliberately distort the intended meanings of statements by taking them out of context and injecting their lying conclusions.

The left hates Trump because he’s a White male of Christian upbringing who promotes the free market.

LOL! I spent some time in the Boston area back when they had newspaper kiosks. Maybe they still do, but I haven't been back lately. Anyway, both papers would be sitting side by side. The Globe was the paper that still had plenty left in the kiosks I'd see by the end of the day.

One of the great conservative voices of New England is a Herald columnist, Howie Carr. (Also a radio talk host.)

Yes. I listen to Howie every chance I get. The president came very close to taking NH in 2016. A big reason he got as many votes in NH as he did was a direct result of Howie’s daily on air support. Howie is a New England conservative classic.

As for this CNN witch, what planet is she living on? Normally, a soft answer—as Sander’s response certainly was—”turns back wrath”[Proverbs 15:1]-but in this case, consider the anti-Trump source (CNN).

The planet they’re living on is liberal la-la land!

In Maine Trump actually won an electoral vote, under their unique system of allocation. Howie’s big there, too (as you know).

I read all his columns which are nationally-themed, and a lot of the ones which are local, like the recent ones about the bimbo on the Mass. state police payroll. (I’m in NC.)
