Yup. Trump doesnt have to but thats actually a states rights approach. Guessing this guy was the least bad of the candidates the Senators put up.
I’m going to go out on a limb here and say probably anyone in the available pool of choices is shameless gun control advocate.
You hit the nail on the head....really it IS demoncrat majority.
What the hell? Why would he even consider nominating some one who is anti-gun to any court?
Nothing in the constitution requires the president to choose from among a group of nominees created by one or more senators.
He doesnt.
The fact that neither leftist Senator from Hawaii has objected should be a huge red flag to everyone. Stop this nomination! Senator Grassley, are you paying attention?
+1
Oh yeah, well guess what? Alaska is also in the 9th Circus, and I'm sure those worthless Alaska RINO Senators Dan Sullivan and Lisa Murkowski could come up with someone, ANYONE better.
Amen to that! This ain't rocket surgery, you leave the damn seat vacant until you vet someone to our liking. Harriet Meirs redux?
I am sure there is some strategy somewhere. They may be trying to play for the republicans losing the senate so they are getting something in return here. Remember they aren’t really making it worse. You can’t turn the ninth with 1 or 2 or even 3 conservatives. And if they are trading something for this, then it may be the player to be named later. Stack the ninth with liberals and get a conservative somewhere else.
https://www.nytimes.com/2018/04/07/us/politics/trump-reinhardt-ninth-circuit.html
The Trump administration has already put forward two nominees for Ninth Circuit openings. One, Mark Bennett, the former attorney general of Hawaii, has the support of the states two Democratic senators.
But the other, Ryan Bounds, a federal prosecutor in Oregon, faces objections from the states two Democratic senators, setting up a showdown over that choice.
http://www.oregonlive.com/portland/index.ssf/2018/02/oregons_us_senators_say_federa.html
“After the committee finished its work, we learned that Ryan Bounds failed to disclose inflammatory writings that reveal archaic and alarming views about sexual assault, the rights of workers, people of color, and the LGBTQ community,” U.S. Sens. Jeff Merkley and Ron Wyden said in a joint statement.
“While we have followed through on our commitment to forward to the White House the names reported by the committee, we do not believe Mr. Bounds is a suitable nominee for a lifetime appointment to the bench,” the statement said.
Bounds’ commentaries while at Stanford University in the 1990s were detailed in a report by the liberal judicial advocacy group Alliance for Justice. In opinion pieces for The Stanford Review, Bounds derided multiculturalism on campus, expressed disdain for “race-focused groups’’ and questioned the university’s role in punishing students in rape and sexual assault cases.
The three judge panel was subsequently overturned by an en banc and then a "super" en banc review. (Again, the more conservatives on the 9th, the merrier.)
No, there is no strategy here other than appeasing the Democratic leaders of the next Congress...

Speak out. Tell the President this is unacceptable. He needs to hear from his base, loudly and often, on this mistake of a nominee
I'm not so certain he is. From what I could gather from the legaleze of the article, he seems to be more in line in supporting states rights of gun ownership over Federal oversite......I could be wrong and probably am.
He was the Attorney General appointed by Hawaii's last Republican Governor.
>>The way it works is that they take nominees from the senators of those states. In the ninth, there are few good choices available to him.<<
I don’t believe for a minute that there are not possible nominees more closely aligned to Trumps base than this leftist bas-turd. What the hell is Trump thinking? And, I may be wrong but I don’t think the President is compelled to select a nominee based on some leftist Senator’s preference.
>>This raises question about Trumps support of the 2nd amendment with he stealthly nominates anti-gun folks.<<
Trump is playing with fire by doing this because a huge portion of his base is comprised of locked-down 2nd Amendment supporters, and more than a few of them, myself included, will walk away from him in a New York minute. Not a threat, simply a FACT!
Freeper poinq suggested that the candidate has to be “presented” by the senators from that state...if that is the case, I guess we won’t get someone we like in that area no matter what.
I am not sure that is completely true, though, since I found this at uscourts.gov:
Who appoints federal judges?
****************************
Supreme Court justices, court of appeals judges, and district court judges are nominated by the President and confirmed by the United States Senate, as stated in the Constitution. The names of potential nominees are often recommended by senators or sometimes by members of the House who are of the President’s political party. The Senate Judiciary Committee typically conducts confirmation hearings for each nominee. Article III of the Constitution states that these judicial officers are appointed for a life term. The federal Judiciary, the Judicial Conference of the United States, and the Administrative Office of the U.S. Courts play no role in the nomination and confirmation process.
>> President Trump can’t do everything by himself. He has to rely on subordinates for counsel.<<
Everything in your post is tantamount to a smokescreen, political BS to pacify the rubes who are easily duped by such nonsense. Trump has an ABSOLUTE obligation to his base to get rid of such judicial despots, NOT hire them. This stab in the back, along with his blindness regarding that imposter sleeping over at the DOJ, is just about enough to convince me to close the book on The Donald. Supporting him
up to now has cost me a lot of money, hard feelings, threats, lost friends, etc. ENOUGH IS ENOUGH!
