NY Rep Explains Why He Won't Be Attending This Weekend's Local Gun Forum With Students

Rep. Chris Collins (R-NY) will not be attending this Saturday's gun forum organized by local students in Western New York.

The "Town Hall for Our Lives,” rally is to be held at Buffalo's St. Paul’s Cathedral this Saturday.

"The idea is to generate a respectful discussion on the merits of gun control and potential solutions to the mass shootings that have devastated communities and schools throughout the country," according to local reports.

Collins isn't so sure.

"This rally is going to be an anti-gun rally," Collins explained in an interview with WBEN Radio 930AM Thursday morning.

What we really need to focus on, he said, is "the root cause" of these shootings. "It's not the gun, it's the shooter."

Yet, the hosts wondered if Collins's no show makes it seem like he's "turning his back" on the kids.

"i don't think so," he said, because he's going to be at two high schools this weekend talking to kids. He'd be "happy" to go to Clarence High School at some point for legitimate discussions.

The forum, on the other hand, is "an anti-Republican situation."

"It's hypocrites of the worst kind."

The forum speakers, he predicted, are going to be standing up on stage saying they're going to ban the AR-15.

Good call. It is a trap and no doubt the audience will be stacked against him so, yeah, no go.

“Respectful discusssion” Riiiiight. It’ll degenerate into a screamfest with any answer that doesn’t conform to the agenda will be shouted down.

There is no issue that is not already addressed in current law.

I wonder how many hunters there are in western NY? Thousands? Hundreds of thousands?! And all of them are voters, undoubtedly.

He did the right thing.

“The “Town Hall for Our Lives,” rally...”

That’s odd. It’s a gun discussion rally...but the word “gun” isn’t even mentioned in the rally title.

Definitely a good call. The left is out for maximum exposure and will use their Alinski tactics against him.

Guess someone forwarded the topic to be discussed at the forum and the Rep. (wisely ) declined. It would have devolved into a screamfest.

Collins is a Republican/Conservative, but he’s a wealthy man, with a lot of business interests (and a lot to lose), but always speaks in bureaucratic tones, and can be a bit mealy-mouthed. Of course, he’s in NY State as well.

I wish someone would go and tell these people straight up - and call them what they are - Hitler Jugend who are organized by others to give even more power to government and police, and take more rights from individuals and law-abiding citizens.

Rep. Chris Collins (R-NY) will not be attending this Saturday's gun forum organized by local students in Western New York.

18 U.S. Code § 373, United States Criminal Code -

Solicitation to commit a crime of violence

(a) Whoever, with intent that another person engage in conduct constituting a felony that has as an element the use, attempted use, or threatened use of physical force against property or against the person of another in violation of the laws of the United States, and under circumstances strongly corroborative of that intent, solicits, commands, induces, or otherwise endeavors to persuade such other person to engage in such conduct, shall be imprisoned not more than one-half the maximum term of imprisonment or (notwithstanding section 3571) fined not more than one-half of the maximum fine prescribed for the punishment of the crime solicited, or both; or if the crime solicited is punishable by life imprisonment or death, shall be imprisoned for not more than twenty years.

(b) It is an affirmative defense to a prosecution under this section that, under circumstances manifesting a voluntary and complete renunciation of his criminal intent, the defendant prevented the commission of the crime solicited. A renunciation is not “voluntary and complete” if it is motivated in whole or in part by a decision to postpone the commission of the crime until another time or to substitute another victim or another but similar objective. If the defendant raises the affirmative defense at trial, the defendant has the burden of proving the defense by a preponderance of the evidence.

(c) It is not a defense to a prosecution under this section that the person solicited could not be convicted of the crime because he lacked the state of mind required for its commission, because he was incompetent or irresponsible, or because he is immune from prosecution or is not subject to prosecution.

Despite all the codes, do you really think anyone would be prosecuted?

Despite all the codes, do you really think anyone would be prosecuted?

After the Revolutionary War, the new federal government was really too occupied with the overwhelming business at hand- establishing a national constitution, dipping our toes into the waters of international trade, establishing the balance between state's rights and national federal control [the Whiskey Rebellion]- to deal with the leftover problem of Tories, turncoats and leftover traitors.

So that chore was left to the veterans, who likely had the best knowledge and best cause to remain concerned about the enemies still in our midst.

I expect it'll go that way again, if the experience of the Twentieth Century gives us a preview.

The civil war was a catastrophe for Finland. In only a few months, about 30,000 Finns perished, less than a quarter of them on the battlefield, the rest in summary executions and in detention camps. These deaths amounted to about 1 percent of the total population of Finland. By comparison, the bloodiest war in the history of the United States, the Civil War, cost the lives of about 2 percent of the population, but that loss was spread out over four years.

The lib’s version of target practice. Does anybody believe firing squads won’t be part of their “governance” once civilians have been disarmed?
